    From my point of view forum back links are stronger than any other back links but you have to take care while you choose the website select high page rank website and choose right thread and good quality content to post on that thread, you cal also do the forum marketing.

    1. Read the forums rules and guidelines before posting for the first time.


    2. Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered.


    3. Use a meaningful title for your thread.


    4. Do not use a forum to promote your product, service or business.


    5. Be civil. Personal differences should be handled through email or IM and not through posts displayed to everyone.

    If you mean by your topic is about the posting in forums to promote your site then that is link building. When you post on a forum, there is a footprint called signature that contains the link of your website that is if you have one otherwise it will just be a plain signature. Anyway, that signature can be seen and clicked by the reader of your comment on that forum. When the reader clicks on the link of your site then that is a backlink that will produce traffic to your site.
