What do you use to improve SEO on your forum?

What do you use to improve SEO on your forum? There's a number of different mods and plugins for forum software, and the best forum software has it built in.

There's Google SEO for MyBB and a lot of SEO mods for phpBB, Vanilla SEO for Vanilla, IP.SEO for IP.Board though IP.Board has it built in for the most part, and vBSEO for vB.

What software do you run for your forum and what SEO mod(s) do you use?

I use Google SEO for my MyBB Forum. It definitely help as the urls are friendly. I've also added Meta tags plugin. I knew google and some other search engines declared they don't use meta tags but some guru still advices add it.

This is the first time that I’ve heard of Google SEO. With meta tags, I have noticed in new forums that tagging is required when you create a new thread. There is a line for adding tags which are actually keywords. In that sense the admin and mods should be explaining the purpose of those tags so that it can be more beneficial to the forum because some members just put in any keyword that comes to mind because they have no idea what those tags really mean to the forum.

This isn't so much a tip to improve SEO as it is a tip to improve your site to bring back viewers. There are so many websites out there offering the same thing as the next that you have to make sure yours is the most functional and looks the most aesthetically pleasing. I've recently noticed a push for a lot of Flash based sites as well as sites that just try to look flashy and both of these are a big no-no in SEO.

Well SEO on forums are pretty similar with SEO on other websites. You just need to make your forums as visible as possible, this means promotion all over the place, as well as lots of backlinks to help you rise in SERPs.

My take on the improvement of SEO ranking on a forum is to get more members and more posts particularly the new threads. SEO is primarily dependent on the contents so if your forum is dynamic with posts then that means you have new contents there and your SEO ranking will definitely increase. That’s why forum owners never tire of inviting new members who may bring in new flavor to the boards that will invigorate the forum where the old members will be posting more.
