Yes it is. To me anyway I do not like being on a slow site. I will leave if it has not loaded fast. I know that many will leave if they have to wait for a site. It is very agrivating when you have to wait.

Nope I will not. I find a different site with the same topic and use that instead.

Nope I will not. I find a different site with the same topic and use that instead.

Most users do that. And as far as I know (I could be mistaken though), a site must load in its entirety between 15 to 30 seconds, or 1 minute ti the very least.

Few visitors have the patient to wait for minutes before a site is open. Images, flash, etc. would make a site looks attractive, but it also would affect the site open speed that will bring a great visitors loss.

Yes. Definitely. Site speed is very important for your site for sure.
Try asking yourself this question: Would you go to an ugly site, with nothing really interesting, with a good speed, or would you rather go to an amazing looking site, with loads of images and resources needed with an incredibly low speed? I'd go for the first one. Some factors that contribute to low site speed would be images (like Sean said), mods/plugins (for forums), or the hosting might be bad and slow (when their servers are slow), which you would most likely encounter when you're using free hosting such as 000webhost. The best way to avoid this is clear out the space on your hosting, use smaller resources, and/or maybe go with paid hosting.

Of course you'll lose quality. Use thumbnails on images. Limit its sizes.
And when your reader clicks your image, an HQ one will pop-up. It will definitely load a little faster.

Even if Google doesn't consider it one of the most important factors for search engine ranking; page load time is still an important factor to the human visitor who has to suffer through slow loading pages. Though you might still rank well in search engines, anyone who clicks through won't stick around long enough to buy your products or click on your ads, if pages take forever to load.

The speed of displaying the web pages is crucial to the image of the site in terms of direct traffic. I usually exit from a site that takes more than 30 seconds to show the entire web page that I am looking at. Take note that users have a short attention span now that they wouldn’t want to wait so your web page should be fast in displaying the contents. I think even the search engines are affected by the site’s speed.
