Do site wide links hurt your SEO?

What if I made a template with a sitewide link for distribution? Would that help or hurt my search engine ranking in Google search?

The sitewide link is new to me and I am confounded on what it really is. To be honest, I made a search and I didn’t get a clear answer. Using a template means the link is a web page of your site. Am I correct on my assumption? I hope someone will post a clarification for the benefit of learners like me. Thanks in advance to those who will react positively to my request.

Yeah, site-wide links (like a link in a footer or sidebar template that shows on every page of a site) can definitely hurt more than help if it's overused. Google's algorithms got pretty good at spotting the pattern - hundreds of identical links from the same template look nothing like a natural, organic link profile. It's not an instant penalty, but it's a red flag that adds up over time, especially if a lot of your links come from the same handful of templates. Generally safer to focus on links placed within actual content/context rather than site-wide placements, or at least keep them a small % of your overall link profile, not the bulk of it.
