These ads were constantly on TV where they asked people to do a blind side by side comparison of search engines. Most of the people shown selected Bing.

Do you think the comparison was fair enough for both search engines? There was that kind of advertisement with a beer brand. San Miguel is the number 1 brand and Beerhausen was a new brand. The advertisement shows people with blindfold tasting the 2 beer and pointing which one is better. It is like 3 out of 4 pointed to the new brand as the better beer. I guess that is a silly advertisement.

Yes, it's very much like that. They showed two computer screens to the test subject and similar search results and asked them to pick the one that was best. Usually the person chose Bing. I guess it would depend on what keywords were searched though as I did the test online and found it split about half and half (half time I picked Bing, other half I picked Google search).

Oh I see. I have tried BING and other search engines back then, but most of the time, they just have nearly similar results to Google. So I just don't really bother as I have Google readily accessible here on my browser.

These advertisements for search engines are lots of fun. But actually using the search engine is not so much fun. If Bing is producing very similar results to Google, why not just use Google? I think Bing should spend more money on improving their search engine rather than making costly advertisements.

By blindtest I guess they are pointing to bingiton site. Where you search for something and it shows results in two columns without stating which is from google and which is from bing. Then you vote for better result. After few queries it will show you how many times google beat bing or vice-versa.

But it must be working for them. They say that most people prefer the Bing results over google when they do a blind test.

Haha. It's a toothpaste commercial where one need to choose between Brand A and Brand B... But the commercial is an ad by Brand A. XD

So company is also being advertised on TV but it is not directly, in comparison between two search engines.

Of course, the search results will be biased in favor of Bing. How could it not be? Also what's to stop Bing from biasing the results? There are no laws against that, right?

I would not change my own SEO strategy to favor Bing. But if it served my purposes, I might switch to Bing as an alternate search engine.

As of this day in March 2018, the rank of Bing in Alexa is number 44 which is not really that bad. But if you will compare it to Google which is perennially the number 1 in the list in terms of users, I guess it’s a long climb to go. In my opinion, what Bing needs is a relentless campaign to change the habits of Google users. That is not an easy task though and maybe the rewards system will be effective if the benefits are substantial.
