What's the worst kind of advertising?

I hate spam ads, especially on Twitter or Facebook. Those ads really annoy me.

Which type of advertising would you consider the worst?

Pop up ads are very bothersome. Most pop ups crash my browser. And, some contain viruses. If I find a site that has a pop up, I usually won't go back.

Deceptive ad practices such as sponsored blog reviews, where the blogger has a vested interest in you clicking the links and buying the products. If they say, 'hey I get a cut off this product if you buy', then that's fine. Otherwise, it seems sneaky.

Flashing banner ads give me a headache. Or, video ads that auto-play at full volume when I'm trying to watch Youtube.

Sometimes, you are required to disclose your affiliation with the company you are endorsing, such as when you are tweeting links for others.

My two are,
  1. Spam emails
  2. Video ads from Facebook.

So true, this is annoying, I don't even open it.

I'd have to agree 100%, I hate this so much. Trying to watch a video and have to wait till it's over. It's the worse.

Lightbox ads that pop over the screen asking you to opt in or covering the screen with an annoying and intrusive ad that has nothing to do with the site content.

I tend to really dislike people spamming their posts in forums. That, for some reason, irks me... Especially when they have a signature available to them...lol

At least you can easily click out of those type of ads. They get attention though they are annoying.

I don't like ads that contain spyware or adware and infect my computer. Now you can't tell what type of site will offer up these infected ads. Even so called legitimate sites have been known to infect computers with adware or toolbars through downloads or pop ups.

Any ad that bothers the website visitor is bad. That's not to say all ads are bad, but if the website visitor actually has a negative reaction to the ad, then that is bad.

It's very hard to avoid these type of ads. And, some real sites can be infected and the site owner not even know it. That's why it's important to ensure you have a good firewall on your computer when surfing online.

I have an Adblocker extension on my browser and rarely see advertisements, not even Adsense ads anymore. I just take it for granted that most sites don't even have ads. Though sometimes, I'll see a banner or button ad, but rarely click on it.

I'm trying out Adblocker as you suggested and it helped to cut down the advertising clutter on sites.

They have this type of advertising on Hulu and some online sites such as MTV.com. Same for Spotify, though the ads are audio (not video). And, if you pause the ad or turn it down then your content just never plays.

Spam mails,
You Tube advertisements,
pop-ups on websites

Especially pop ups that install spyware. I'm pretty sure this is what killed one of my computers. This site just would not stop spawning pop ups. And, I could not shut the site down, so I unplugged and when I rebooted the computer would not come back on.

People hate ads, but if they were trying to sell, then they might see differently. I mean, we all have to make a living. Anyhow, though, the beef against pop-under ads is extremely legit, but I'd hate to think people were blocking out banners as so many sellers depend on them.

I think a big problem is that some people want something for nothing. Note, it's not a free show - unless it's some public TV type thing.
