Should big companies advertise other products on their site?

Do you like going to these big shopping sites and seeing advertisements all over the side bar? Is it good to promote another person's products in the ads, if you are a shopping retail site?

I've seen advertising on major websites such as lifetime.com or even Walmart where they have ads for other companies. I can't be sure if the ads are from their partners or just random Adsense ads being shown on the site. But, it comes across as tacky and inappropriate to be showing ads from other sites there, considering the credibility of the site the ads are showing on.

That seems tacky to me when corporate websites allow sponsor advertising on their site, though big business demands a payoff and advertising is one of the best ways to earn money online. Even big companies know this to be true.

And, I wonder how much they paid for that ad space. Though I'm sure you would consider such a high powered connection to be more of a partnership.

When I do online shopping, I find all those online shopping stores with an advertisement bar on the side that shows the advertisements of products that they sell. It is similar to the supermarket with the rack in the middle of the aisle as an extra advertisement similar to the so called point-of-sale advertising. I remember the travel sites that I go to when I am searching for a hotel abroad, they usually come with an advertisement of land tours and restaurants aside from their main line which is hotels.
