Should your advertisement include a deadline?

What are the benefits of including a limited time only offer or deadline in your advertisement? Do you think it will actually cause people to respond faster to your advertising message?

A deadline is a good call to action and will stimulate an immediate response. Just think how many times you have responded to an infomercial saying, 'if you call within the next thirty minutes, get this additional set free'. A limited time offer special works in the same way.

You need to be careful with deadlines and coupon expiration dates. Though these ploys can inspire some impulse purchases, they will also limit your potential customer base. Some people who would love to buy your product, but can't for financial reasons, may disregard your offer since it's only available on limited time basis.

A time element in an advertisement can solicit action better than one with no deadline. People tend to be procrastinators so when they see a post about a bargain or sale, they tend to ignore it for the time being and will go check later when they are not busy. But if the sale ends tomorrow then it is a call to action to read the post in full if it is beneficial to them or not.
