    How do you promote local shops or businesses online?

    Use area searching to your advantage. Google will automatically search the local area for businesses when a user searches. Make sure you list your business and address with google and have the city area in your meta data.

    How can you search for the area? My idea is to search the business with the area as the suffix. If my assumption is correct then the example of a search key is “bakeshop in Manila” which probably yield me a list of links of bakeshops that are located in Manila. When the links are relevant then I could probably post on their website so that I can get some sales? I am confused.

    There should be an author meta tag you can use for details like name/address/email/state etc. Though anything like email can be read by spam bots. But if you want Google to know where your business is, that's a start, also list on your home page or in the footer of all pages.

    My take on promoting local shops is to join local forums or have an account in the social media and create a network of people within the area of your local shop. Especially for a small business, it is best to focus on the local clients because you have an advantage of the proximity that affects the delivery. And local clients are nearer to your area that it is easy to meet up with them if necessary.
