What are techniques for writing really good testimonials?

Whenever writing a testimonial, I don't focus on the specifics of the product (i.e. size and type, color, etc, unless that is a feature I liked). Mostly my reviews are about my personal opinion of the item. If I like a product well enough to review it online or on my blog, then I want people to know why I liked it. However, if there's a specific feature that I liked, then I talk not only about that feature but how it benefits me. Can you give other suggestions for writing better product or service/company reviews?

Give your honest opinion of the product and don't lie as most of your readers will be able to see through fabrications. Tell the person reading what you liked most and least about the product and hold nothing back, allowing them to make up their own mind.

It helps if you have actually used the product or service. In that way, you can write a more convincing and truthful testimony. Always tell the truth about what you think of the product or service. Don't just make things up to make a sale. The reason being, when your site visitors find out that you encouraged them to buy a bad product (or service), they will likely never trust your opinion again.

I focus on what I feel about the product as well. I figured that will greatly help individuals see better if the product is for them or not.

I feel that the description of it will be in the description of the item so unless it pertains to the review, it is not really needed.

Read what others have said about the same product to find out points of interest. From another person's point of view, you may be able to learn things about this specific product that you had not even considered. You can often find reviews for products on Amazon and other review sites.

While it's helpful to know what other users of the product have said, you never want to indicate those are your feelings. That would be a break in trust with your reader. You could just say, 'some users have said that...' and then give details about what others think of the product.

Ask your customers to leave feedback on your profile or sales page with their own testimonials. This will be a very convincing thing for potential buyers to see. When others see how popular you are with your current customers and how satisfied they are with what you have to offer, they are more likely to buy from you too.

If you used the product and liked it then others will like it too. After all, your readers online are more like your friends. And if you say a specific product is good, they will want to believe you and try it out too.

It was a long time ago when I wrote a short testimonial about a local product which is a hair grower. The product is marketed as a hair grower but as per my experience, it is very good against dandruff. My testimonial was a deviation from a hair growing oil into anti-dandruff oil. But writing from experience cannot be disputed so I was praised for that testimonial. I would advise against reading the details of the product to get an idea. What’s important is for you to use the product and tell your experience about it.
