Family and freelancer schedule

As a freelance writer, I have the freedom to work from home so that I'm available for my family as needed. That advantage cuts both ways though as it means sometimes I need to take off time to care for family when a client is expecting me to work. Also, there are common distractions such as the occasional request to do things that someone else could easily handle for themselves.

For this reason, I have set up my schedule so that it can accommodate my family's needs without cutting into work time. Sometimes, this means working after my daughter goes to sleep or devoting time to work when she is engaged in her studies. The important thing for me, is that I will always be there for my family when needed but can still work as much as I want.

Talk about how you are integrating your work at home and family life for maximum productivity.

I like to take time off to spend with family, mom and dad and siblings and get away from work. My family is an important part of my life and I don't want to devote so much time to work that I neglect the ones who took care of me when I was younger.

Family is my greatest motivation for work and not a disturbance. So, I don't mind spending time with them. When I have less time to spend working, I just find a way to work more efficiently later and get work done. I can get more done with one hour of concentrated work than eight hours of dragging it out and the pay is better that way too.

I think that when you work for yourself you can work when you want. So if that is at 3 in the morning or 5 in the afternoon, so be it.

So long as your work gets done and your customer is satisfied, then you are welcome to work as you please. The money is the same whether it's earned in early morning hours or late night.

Work supports family and so family supports work. That is the best strategy so that everyone survives and thrives and can live comfortably. And, then you spend time on the weekend together when you are not working.

Yes that is true. I always find a way to cram it all in.

I think it's easier for a single person with no family or obligations to be a freelancer from home as they can devote a full 12 hours to their home job and not have to get up for anything. But, this is not the reality for many freelancers who are doing the freelance work as a way to supplement their full time job.

There are many types of family obligations, not just taking care of a child. You might be responsible for an elder parent's care or caring for your pets. All these activities are important 'family' obligations and should not be ignored even for work.

I think that you just squeeze in work when you can such as I do. I work a full time job and do this on the side. I spend a lot of nights working on articles and such and will even work on weekends if I have to.

Most freelancers I know are into it in order to have more time for the family. Working at home gives you a feeling that you can attend to your family all the time especially for those with pre school children. And although in reality you are busy with work, at least you are at home. Making a viable work schedule is the best so you will have ample time for work and a time for the family.
