Deadlines vs Dollars

What if you have many small $$$ money freelance jobs lined up to do and approaching deadlines but then get a very large paying freelance job. Would you put the smaller jobs on hold to work on the larger job as it will mean more money? How do you handle a situation where you have a time crunch and have to make a choice as to which freelance project to focus on?

As buyer's satisfaction is my first priority, deadline is much important for me compare to dollars. In the situation stated above i would discuss the matter with my buyers if they consider my situation then i'll try the large paying order first otherwise i'll go for the deadline.

I tend to not get in those situations as I avoid at all cost ever setting unrealistic deadlines. Even if my time may seen a little longer than a competitor I wouldn't change it as I would prefer my clients to know what they're getting.

If for some reason I did end up in that situation then I would simply message both parties and explain the situation that things are a bit crazy but I'll be doing everything I can to meet the deadline, which is exactly what I would be doing. From there i'd simply prioritize based on the actual work, that would always be case to case.

Karoshio

I do everything I can to meet deadlines. I do not want to upset anyone because it may mean that they will not come back to me for further work.

Lots of small $$$$ orders = larger amounts of cash. I'd probably go for the deadlines in case I truly believe I'll be able to deliver everything in a reasonable time frame, even though it might be late deliveries. I would however notify my clients about the delay and try to over-deliver to make sure they'd be satisfied. Compensate them so to speak.

I try not to get into this situation either but if it happens I just stay up and work until I get it done. If I was the one that took on all the jobs, it is my responsibility to finish them correctly and on time.

I would not put the smaller jobs on hold if you have already commited to them. It does not look very good on your part if you do not finish them on time.

It would just make good business sense to give more of your time to big dollar jobs, rather than all your time to small dollar jobs that aren't paying much. Even if deadlines are looming, you need to focus more on the assignments that will pay more and limit the time spent on ones that won't pay.

Finish up all the jobs which are coming due soon as they should be almost done anyway and then work some on the jobs which will pay you more but whose deadline is further off.

It would only be fair to spend a few extra minutes to complete the jobs you accepted first, even if they are not paying as much. You can't simply give more time to someone who pays more if that means you are cheating your first customers out of the job they paid for.

Don't put all your energy on a $3.00 job, if it means you would lose $300.00 from another customer.

whether small or big jobs,.all are very important. but fi the worst comes,i may go for the big single job and compensate the smaller jobs by notifying them of the deadline and delivering over what my gig says. but paying attention to deadlines is also quite important too.

Deadline is very important. Usually same buyer orders our services several times. Buyer's satisfaction should be our priority

Yes I consider the dead line lot. But still like not to get more than what I can do.. DO not bump when you are loaded with owrk

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

chetaseo
yes, once one has a lot to do,. it is better not to do any bump until you have cleared some orders in a way that it wont affect if you decide to bump again. but the big issue is this: once you get an order, try to deliver as quick as possible before they start rushing in especially if you are on permanent feature and the kind of service you can bump regularly is the instant download ones or those that will just take few seconds to deliver.

I would suggest doing the jobs in the order that you get them or do the ones that are due first in order to not have a late delivery.

sure, ben,. but if something unfortunate happens and the time is very very limited, you should go for those with high dollars, having very limited time to spare.

Good topic!
And everyone is correct from their perception!
It's really tough to say in advance for this kind of situation.
Actually it depends! But it's a matter of management power; Time management, Client management.
Every seller knows their own ways of handling situation like this!

Don't put all your energy on a $3.00 job, if it means you would lose $300.00 from another customer.

Especially true if the freelance client will pay you the $300 to finish the work now, rather than making you hold off and work slowly for a month.

If I could get $450 tomorrow, rather than $10, then I would go for that. Loyalty is one thing, but you need to think of your own financial bottom line and understand that it's affected by your choice of which project to work on and finish first.

I have yet to experience getting several small jobs simultaneously but for the sake of discussion that the situation occurs, I will have to evaluate very well the consequences. If I will give priority to the big deal, will those small deals that I will neglect affect my reputation? But maybe I am going to look for a virtual assistant who could help me with the small jobs or even provide me assistance with the big job.
