Do you have what it takes to be a successful freelancer?

As a freelancer, it helps to be highly disciplined, sticking with one task until it's done, rather than jumping around on ten different projects or slacking off when work needs to be done. And, it's easy to get distracted with minutia or petty details of daily living. This is especially true when you are working at home. So it would be good for a freelancer to be very disciplined, able to set a good schedule and stick to it, complete projects on time and stay organized.

Do you feel like you have all these traits for freelancer success?

I don't really like dealing with people. And, lately I've been offering a few services to friends who ask for my help on their website. Now that I'm branching out with referrals, I have to deal with strangers and for me this has been difficult. Although I'm organized, I don't know if I have what it takes to earn a lot as a freelancer as I am not very social.

I feel for you! I am a social person, but only within the circle of people I know. Where I mostly keep it online, it's more feasible for me, as I don't have the physical contact with the people I don't know. I have dealt with local businesses and such, however I do it when I feel I'm ready. I go to their establishment and provide them with the initial information required, after that the working relationship is kept online through emails, etc... It's on my own terms.

I have done some cold calling type sales in person, with businesses. And, it's not an easy thing to do, trying to close the sale or convince the person they need your services. I would not wish that experience on anyone.

I would much prefer to deal online with people via website, blog, forum, private message, email, etc. The interactions are so much easier than more adversarial face to face type cold calling type situation. Online my customers can see my services sales page, decide for themselves they like what I have to offer and place an order. Then I do the work, get paid. And, everyone is happy. I always want it to be this way.

Dedicate yourself to your freelancer job in much the same way you would any paying job and realize that effort you put into the job now will result in pay later. So if you don't work now, you don't have assignments to turn in later and then you won't get paid. That's how it works with freelancing; you are paid for results only.

Being able to show progress on any job you are assigned is a good thing for the freelancer as most clients will expect daily/weekly updates to ensure you are actually working on their project.

I'm very persistent and I think you need to be that way if you want to succeed in any business whether internet marketing or freelancing. I don't quit until I have the best opportunity available and then I always do a good job.

I am actually working as a Freelancer and I really like the job that I am currently doing. However, it is not easy to earn online. You must be willing to work for long hours at time and you must be a hard worker. You must have good organizational and time management skills.

It's true! Working at home can get really distracting. I notice I don't produce as much these days because I been getting lazy just by being at home. You really need determination and to be organize to get everything done. Everyone thinks it's a easy job but it's actually pretty challenging trying to manage everything and manage your place too.

When it comes to work schedules, I am conscious of deadlines. In fact, I arrive at the office at least an hour before the official start of work. That gives me a good headstart in doing the project. With freelancing, I don't think I would have an issue with work deadlines for I am always prompt.

Certainly I do because I'm succeeding already.Nothing beats hardwork and determination. Putting the right foot forward is all we need to get things done and be successful.

Succeeding is not rocket science, it to sharpen one's mind,skills and talents and then put them to work and stay on it till success and the needed result is achieved.

I have been working as a full-time freelancer since 2006. If I did not have what it needs to become a freelancer, I would have never made this far. I do a lot of things (I also have a small offline business) but freelancing is my number one earning source.
If you want to become a successful freelancer, you need to concentrate on a couple of things, such as
develop skills: I started as a writer, and now I am also an SEO expert, digital marketer and web designer
manage time: You need to know how much time you should give to a certain project and you also need to know how to prioritize the jobs.

It looks like you are one veteran freelancer that is a jack of all trades, so to speak. Like you, I am also trying to learn more particularly the technical aspects of SEO and as I go along, I am gathering information and storing it in my mind that I hope would be used for my benefit someday. Right now I am a part time freelancer but in 4 years or so I will be a full time freelancer and I should be an expert in one or 2 subjects when that time comes.

The basic requirement of becoming a freelancer is to have a lot of skills. If writing is your forte and want to start as a freelance writer, you need skills like SEO, social media marketing etc. You should also focus on developing other skills. You are a writer, however, if you have website management skills you can also become a blogger.

Well I think that I have what it takes to become a successful freelancer. Although I have to admit that I'm slow paced sometimes but I'm very persistent, and in this kind of business you really need persistency and determination in order to succeed.
