If I go on Facebook, my friends will try to talk to me, even when I need to be working. So I ban Facebook from my browser until after all work is done and I'm caught up on what I need to do.

Facebook can be a big distraction for me too, especially if a friend of mine has said they will be online at a certain time to chat. Then I have Facebook open. It can be annoying if they don't bother logging on. Makes me not want to be on Facebook at all. For now, I'm just focusing on family and work and less on Facebook friends.

It can be annoying if they don't bother logging on. Makes me not want to be on Facebook at all. For now, I'm just focusing on family and work and less on Facebook friends.

I know that it is a huge distraction. I open it up and will chat with others but they have to realize that I am busy and if I do not get back to them right away, it is not because I am ignoring them.

Anything that hinders you from finishing your work on time or completing your job every day is a distraction that should be eliminated.

Sometimes it is fun to have distractions but when I have a lot of work to do, I will not let anything get in my way to get that done. I have deadlines to meet.

I have found that if I have a schedule, it allows me to work better. Do this on this day, that on that day. Works quite well.

I have a set amount of time that I will spend on work everyday, including outside work and work on the computer and then I'm done. This method works for real world jobs and work at home jobs and minimizes distractions.

What if you were sick for a week, would you have to work a lot to make it up? I think at some point the work overloads so much there is no catching up. Do you have suggestions on making up work in those situations?

I check on my forum every forum first thing when I get online. Once that is done, I can go about my other work.

Just don't give in to the temptation to check your emails or Facebook or whatever site it is that is distracting you. Many times those sites will only be a hindrance to getting the job done. What you need is laser sharp focus that allows you to finish your work on time without interruption.

This is not easy to do if you work at home and have responsibilities other than work to take care of such as housework or yard work or caring for a senior family member.

It takes a lot of effort to stay on target and focused when you have so many people pulling on you from so many directions. Using a day planner or schedule really helps direct your energy and time as all time slots of your day will be planned out, so when someone wants to hang out with you, then you would simply check your schedule to see when you have time for that, rather than dropping your current project and going to do that.

Nothing really distracts me now as I have blocked most time wasting sites from my browser. That way if I'm tempted to visit them, I have to enter a password and that one extra moment of hesitation reminds me that sites like Facebook is a waste of time.

Yes there are many distractions that I face. But in reality the distractions that I have are just a part of life. such as family and friends. and you can not live without them in my opinion so they are a good distraction.

I work at home so I can be near my family when they need me, I am very happy to be there for them in this way. Though working at home poses unique challenges of time management not faced by someone who works at an out of the house job.

If you're having trouble fitting your website/blog into your life, it's because you've made the fatal mistake of treating it like work. Now your website/blog is important to you - if it isn't dump it and get one that is. Because it's important, it helps people. Because it helps people, it should be fun - at least as much fun as chatting to your friends on Facebook. If it isn't fun, it isn't helping people and if it isn't helping people, it isn't important.

By important I don't mean that it has to be big or world-changing. It has to be important to you. If your website/blog is about different flavors of bubblegum, that's fine. You just have to ask yourself why that's important to you. It may be that chewing gum helps you to think or blowing bubbles makes everyone laugh. If that's important enough as a reason for you to want to write about it, then it is important enough to be a subject of a website/blog

If you're having fun, you might find that your friends come over to your website/blog to join in rather than drag you away to Facebook and then you won't find it a distraction.

When my step-daughter was much younger, she got into growing crystals. So I could have set up a website/blog on that where I talk about the science-y stuff and the safety issues, my step-daughter could have provided the pictures and opinions and my wife could have talked about the practicalities of where to put them in a busy house so they didn't get knocked over as well as the educational value.

What a great family activity to get any family member into blogging. Lots of great educational benefits to be had by blogging including increased literacy and communication skills.

There might be a way to include your distraction in with your forum. So if you love Facebook or Youtube, you could include a subforum on your general chat section to include interesting updates/memes/videos found on Facebook or Youtube. This would give you an excuse to visit either site as they are integrally linked with a section on your own forum and could help you generate new content.

Real life/job/work is a constant distraction if you can call it that, but a necessary one as without a job, there would be no money for hosting. It's a good idea to outsource whatever you can with your site so you are not wholly responsible for site maintenance, and this is especially true if you are busy.

My start page is my blog so I am not able to go anywhere online until I have seen my blog. And, seeing my blog as the first page I hit when I go online is a huge incentive to actually post something new.

I have a full time job in the office and my freelancing is part time only. That is the main reason why I cannot put up my own blog because I may not have the time for it. I know that a website or a blog needs full attention that you have to be monitoring it in your waking hours. And it is not practical to pay someone to do it for me. Besides, I should be the one to be replying when there is a comment on my blog. One blogger who is full time on her blog says that her children are the interruption to her work.
