Did you hire a webmaster for your website?

Or, do you manage updates/additions to your static HTML website?

What duties should a webmaster perform and how much would you pay?

If I were going away on vacation or taking a leave of absence and couldn't attend to my website, then I would hire a webmaster to take care of my site until I came back. A site does not really run itself. No reason to let it go dormant, just because I can't be there.

Except for a forum admin, i've never had any help with my sites. Most of my blogs run themselves, except for occasional updates. They don't require any additional webmaster help.

I never required any help for setting up any of my websites. I have always installed them by myself and used tutorials on the internet to gain the necessary information. At the moment I am also the webmaster of a gaming website, which belongs to one of my web hosting clients.

I guess if I did hire someone, I would negotiate on a price with them. Have them understand what they are doing and see what needs to be all done daily and then go from there.

I have not hired anyone as I am just learning about all but I would say that you have to pay them based on what they are worth. If they do a good job, then you would obviously pay them more.

I thinking of doing that at least to redesign and put things in place but for now I'm managing it myself and doing all necessary optimisation for search engine.

I'd never hire a webmaster to do my work. I know pretty much everything a forum/blog owner has to know, therefor I don't need to hire a webmaster. A webmaster should only be hired if he is a great expert, or if the owner knows not enough to manage a website.

The duties of a webmaster would be to keep the website going, keep the security measures updated, update the site with things which need to be updated, and so on. I'd have to, of course, trust the webmaster very much to do that.

I'd pay him from 5$ to 50$ a month, depending on the duties.

I don't see any need for a webmaster to manage my blog as I do all the activities daily including making the new posts and backlinking as needed.

I haven't had any help for any of my websites, I prefer to manage it on my own. I did hire someone for a football forum to help me out but it was for the community side while I sorted the back end of the forum. If I go on holiday, I either find a temporary mod to manage the forum while i'm absent or I put the forum on maintenance which may annoy some people but it is better then returning to find my forum has been spammed by bots or members have been breaking the rules and have gotten away with it. I like taking the safe side.

I totally agree with Sharla, there is no need to hire a webmaster when you got so many great CMSs like Concrete5, Joomla, Wordpress. Thing you need to do is read some tutorials about using cms you've choosen and get to work!

My skills are limited. I don't know much about programing, however, I have good skills with designing a wordpress site. I can customize a wordpress site and give it a professional look. I learned website designing my own way. Even when I did not know anything about wordpress site or website design I did not hire a webmaster. I managed my websites by reading DIY articles and watching DIT videos.
