Most times, guest blog posts are done for free by a writer who gets a backlink in return from the blog owner at the end of the article or as a by-line.

Whenever possible, I will ask a friend to write a guest blog post for my blog as that frees up my time to manage other facets of my business. However, they might ask for a backlink or not depending on whether or not they own a site. Sometimes, they will just write the post as a favor.

Guest posts are usually free in my book. That is a way to get your foot in the door if you are a writer who wants to write blog posts.

I have done some free ones in the past. Never been paid for a guest post though.

I was thinking most of the time guest blogs were free? Maybe not?

I guess that not all the time they have to be free. You could pay for them.

I agree that I thought they were free. I think many use them to get a link back to their site.

Most freelance writers are only too happy to write a guest blog post for a backlink as it contributes to their writer's resume and will help secure future writing jobs.

I'm not opposed to paying for a blog post if the person doesn't mind not getting a backlink. I don't want others thinking I am not writing on my own blog.
