Subtle ways of promoting your blog

When commenting on blogs or forums do you blatantly say, 'check out my blog' or do you use more subtle techniques for referring to your blog and getting visitors?

Maybe if you referred to a blog post you made recently on your blog and talked about how it related to the blog post you are commenting on, that would be a more subtle way to tie in your comment with the link and subtly suggesting others visit the blog post for more related info. That could be a good way to generate more blog traffic from related blogs.

Do guest posting on blogs and include the link to your blog is a great way to get promotion.

Being subtle is always the way to go. You could put checkout(website) for more information.

I like using the check out (site) for more info. I think that this is a more professional way to go.

Yes this seems professional to me as well. And that is what one of the goals should be.

Yes being professional can take you far. Being professional about things just means that you know what you want and are willing to work to get them!

Commenting on related blogs and including your blog link is usually enough to get traffic. Most people will click through out of curiosity.

I have to admit that I promoted my blogs in Facebook. But unlike ordinary ads, what I do is post an excerpt of my blog together with a picture that is included in the blog. An example is my blog about our first dog. The title is The Return of Jedi. Just the accompanying picture is already interesting and the excerpt is how our dog got that name. It may not be interesting at all but for sure it will stir the curiosity. And that post seemed to be effective for promoting that article about my dog.

I find the blogs that ask you to supply your name and eMail address, indicate that you eMail will not be shared to protect your privacy, and then give you a place to include your website. Once I fill out those boxes, I put my comments in the Comments box and press Submit. Usually, when the approved comment is published, you can click on your name which links back to your blog or website. That's subtle but effective. Most people in the blogosphere know how it works.

To be honest, the blogs that I really like, are the ones that use CommentsLuv or the Disqus Comments plugin. They make backlinking to your blog super easy.

At the forum where I am a member, you can add your website/blog link to your profile and you can also create a “Signature” that has your blog link. Adding to your profile is free but I think there is a small cost for creating the signature.

Also, you should create a Signature for your eMails. This is what my signature for my gMail communications looks like. Go into your gMail settings, scroll down on the General tab and create your signature. Every time you compose and eMail and send it, the recipient gets your blog info.
