How long did it take to develop your voice as a blogger?

Every blogger has a unique style of speaking to their own readers. As for me, it took awhile before I felt comfortable blogging as the writing style is different than article writing. Many times, it's OK to address the reader directly, as if you are talking to them. Where as in article writing, the writing is more impersonal. Now I feel as if I'm more relaxed with blog posts and my style is more fluid. Though I know it's OK for some blogs to have a more professional tone to the writing, especially for industry related news.

Please talk about your chosen writing style as a blogger, whether you choose to keep it very informal or more professional. And, some of the things you might have done to help yourself create a unique writing style (or voice) as a blogger.

It took me awhile to feel comfortable in my own skin as a writer. For a long time, I was deferring to the third person or objective style of writing. Now, it seems second nature to refer to myself and my own experiences. And, my readers seem to prefer this style of writing, although it's more casual.

What helps me achieve a natural sounding voice is to simply speak out my articles and go over the ideas, off of paper. This lets me get a better, more natural flow to my words and then when I'm ready to write them down, the ideas are not so jumbled and require less editing.

I'm still developing my voice.

I started developing my voice but trying to write as I spoke to the point where I was looking at getting voice recognition software so I could just speak my mind.

But then I noticed that I was writing as I would have spoken had I chance to reconsider, rephrase or repeat my words until I was happy with them. In other words, the editing process inherent in blogging gave me the chance to speak in my best voice.

Then I discovered that I was writing in the same style as when I wrote lyrics for songs. I've started to incorporate rythms and pace changes and repetitions to make it more interesting to read. So, you could say, I found myself speaking in my best rap voice.

Most recently, the calligrapher in me has become interested in how the words are arranged on the page and how I can use that to make my work more accessible. So I found myself speaking in my best performance poet voice.

Ironically, I am now thinking of dumping all of this and going for a more graphic approach using infographics, Slideshare and Youtube animations to make my points. So I suppose I shall find myself speaking in my best, poetic cartoon voice.

When I write my blog, I think of my audience as the silentmajority. When I was asked to co-write a blog, I was given samples of articles
so what I did was to adapt to that style. When reading my blog, you get the
impression that I am having a monologue. Maybe that style of writing is reason
why I don’t get comments on my blog. So when I continue my blogging, I probably
need to change my style to make it appear that I am talking to my audience.
This goes to show that I am not really a writer and I am into writing for only
2 years going to 3 years.

I found out that writing on the blog on relationship matters involves using the emotional tone to talk to my visitors. So, when I started out, that is the tone of my writing and it has worked great for me as well.

When I started writing, I was writing on everything, from relationship, parenting to religion, spirituality, even politics. It was my writing instructor on Hubpages who helped me realize my voice. She said I was good at writing articles on religion and philosophy. However, I continue to write on the topics that interest me.

It looks like your theme in writing is the wholesome topics. I never thought of writing about religion because my father had warned me about it. Religion and politics are the dividers of people because arguments will always be there when you talk of religion and politics. But I also like to write about relationship maybe because of my experiences that I want to share. It’s nice to give advice on relationship issues.

I have written a lot of articles on relationship, however, my relationship articles never performed well. This is a heavily saturated topic, therefore, it is almost impossible to rank your article. Having said that writing on relationship can also get a lot of engagements because this is the topic everyone is interested on. Religion and politics divide people. These topics can also attract a lot of controversies. If you are writing on the internet, attracting controversies can be very beneficial sometimes. I once published an article on "headscaft" on hubpages. There were 300 comments.
