Does requesting a password reminder lock the account?

On some forums where I'm a member, I have noticed that my account won't login again once I request a password reminder. So for instance, let's say that I try twice to login and then request the reminder email. And, before I have a chance to check the email, I remember what my password was and enter that password instead. The password is no longer the same or at least the forum account is now locked. And, this is very frustrating. The account password should not get changed automatically just because I ask for a reminder.

I've never heard of forum accounts being locked out just because you request a password reminder. However, some forums don't issue reminders, but will instantly reset the password when you ask for password assistance. That would explain why you can't get into the forum account anymore. My advice would be to request another password and this time check your email for the new password.

I don't think your account would get locked for requesting assistance. Worst case scenario, you could private message or email the site owner/admin (assuming you have their contact details) and ask for personal assistance in having your account restored.

This might be true on some sites where you have a cash out feature so that requesting a new password nullifies your old password and then new one is sent to your email account. That might be a safety feature to prevent people from trying to hack your account.

I've had a few frustrating experiences with forum logins on some forums in the past. And, when those problems happen everytime I try to login, it makes me just want to quit the site as it becomes too much trouble to deal with. As a forum owner, you should be aware of your site users experience even creating a beta account to test out login and message posting functions so your site visitor does not have to deal with petty stresses you could handle.
