What if someone stole your avatar/username?

On one of the forums where I was posting five years ago, another user took my real person photo and real name and used it for themselves. They simply copied my name and photo and started an account on a related forum so that it looked as if I was the one making the new posts. This was a very troubling situation considering how they were also trolling in my name. Many of my friends on the forum thought I was the troublemaker though I had not registered on the second forum.

That sounds bizarre and stalkerish. Do you know why they emulated or copied your name/avatar? Were they really trying to discredit you?

Report the event to the forum owner and provide proof of your own identity, including how you own that name/avatar previously on another forum and likely the user will be banned.

This thing is happening in Facebook. I have read the post about it from several of my friends that they even posted the screenshot of the poser’s profile. Yeah, they call those people posers, those who use your name and photo. But in Facebook, it is usually only the photo is used plus the bio data and the name is different. This is the first time that I’ve heard about a poser in a forum. I wonder what the intention of the poser is. Maybe to irritate the owner of the username and avatar? That’s clearly a waste of time.
