On some forums, you will see how pages/posts are limited to guests, meaning you have to sign in after five posts. Other times, forums require login of forum members before any threads are viewable. So how do these forums get new members, especially if guests can't see the discussions on forum? And, is this something you would do, limit guest views of forum posts?

Some of the largest forums use this content locking as a way to prevent outsiders from scraping content for their own forum. I know of a forum that is locked to guests. One has to log in before you can view the boards. In another forum, only the basic boards can be seen by guests. And normally, forums show all the boards to guests. I prefer the second style of showing a few boards to guests so there is a need to log in or to register.I know of a forum that is locked to guests.
