What are the main differences between a content writer and a copywriter?

They both have the word writer within them, but the terms mean different things. First of all a content writer is a writer who writes pages for websites. Basically you need to add as many keywords as possible for SEO purposes, while also ensuring that it is readable and as interesting as can be. The word counts are longer.

Copywriters are more concerned about the promotional aspect of the content. The briefer and more catchy it is the better, although it is not about a few sentences either. You basically try to sell something with copywriting, whereas with content writing it is more about explanatory elements.

Having said that they complement one another in my opinion? What do you think?

Interesting subject. I actually never thought about it's differences. It's similar as we discussed about differences between programmers and coders just days ago, but now it makes more sense to me that there is difference, after reading your discussion.

Copywriter does the job of writing the copy that makes people want to buy things. In case of the writers, you may find that they have general content writing experience. And they may not have much experience with the content headlines. And this is where the copywriter comes in. They focus on the clickbait type of the content. And that's how it converts there as well.

From what I understand, a copywriter is a text artist. That means the writer is writing something to appear as graphical in description. You need to be that creative as a copywriter for most of what you write are products or services. A content writer is someone who can write with good grammar and sentence construction and has the skill to write with a good flow that is not only understandable to the reader but interesting as well. That’s my description of a copywriter against an ordinary content writer.

I think that the main difference between them is that the copywriter works most often with commercial text. For example, you need content on your website that will explain what the company does, generate leads, and sell your services. An ordinary author can't make a commercially correct text, but a copywriter can. You can learn more about our copywriter services here.
