    Why does my new content rank high and then fall off on Google?

    When I create new content on my website it gets crawled and indexed in minutes, always less than an hour. It also ranks very high, usually in the top 5 results for a search using the primary keywords in the title. After a while, maybe 24 or 48 hours the result completely disappears. Eventually it comes back.

    Why is this and what causes it?

    The best thing about this is that if you see your website at #1 and then it disappears to page 3,459 it's usually a good thing. Why is this a good thing? Because with the Google Dance you will normally see where your website will bounce up to and that's generally an indicator of where you'll land when the dance is over. I know I've started doing SEO campaigns for clients in the past and they started to see a fluctuation in their traffic and rankings and they start to freak out. I have to explain to them that this is completely normal and it is only Google trying to figure out where exactly to place their website within the search results. The Google dance is annoying at first but loved afterwards when the client sees the higher rankings and more traffic lol Why does my new content rank high and then fall off on Google?

    So in the end, the Google Dance is a fickle mistress we all love to hate and then love again when she leaves. Our traffic and sales drop for a few days, maybe a couple weeks, and return with even more traffic and sales than before when the dance is done.

    On average, how long does the Google dance take to complete? In other words, when will I see the results returned to the position it was before it danced away.

    The Google dance is unpredictable. It could be a few days to a few months.

    If you're constantly building new links aimed at your pages, which you should be, it will seem like it never stops. The great thing about this is that when you're sitting solid near the top you won't move much after big linking campaigns. But since you're probably not the leader in the niche, Google will push your website all over the rankings until it figures out where it thinks you should be.

    Don't stop building links in order to see where you land in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). You can slow down a little bit and see what page you may end up on. I say to never stop because you could just be slowing down the increase of rankings for your website. You can slow the link building to see where you land and increase it right as you get an idea. Doing this will also seem more natural to Google and they will more than likely push you higher than you anticipated Why does my new content rank high and then fall off on Google? It seems more natural because websites get shared in waves. Your traffic will also spike in the middle of the week and if you're not getting as many links during the time you're checking where you land, it will be a good indicator to Google than everything is natural.     Yes that is what it is all about - the Google Dance. For those who are not aware of it it certainly brings one's hopes down, as first you see a good ranking, which is everyone's dream come true, and then it simply disappears in thin air. However all it is is that there has to be a period of time during which Google rebuilds its rankings. This generally takes around 4 days, and before it used to take more. However this may vary too and it could take even longer than that. Some sites stabilize more quickly than others. Generally newer sites end up taking longer than older ones. And obviously while other sites are also dancing, it is going to effect your site as well. ?The result of this rebuilding is that the rankings of the websites on Google's SERP may end up fluctuating. The main drawback is that many clients do not have a clue of what this is all about, and generally when they realize that their site is nowehere to be seen they panic and point their finger to the SEO specialist that they hire.
