It's impossible to know and you'd need to spend quite a bit of time and money. It 100% depends on the competitiveness of the keyword.

Sam is spot on. It is literally impossible to calculate. Every keyword has different competition and then of course there is your own website which plays a big role. If the on-page SEO is up to scratch then it will take even longer.

You are right that there is no specific period that you can estimate for your site to go up the ranks on page 1 for the keywords. Take note that the keywords of your web pages are also dependent on the keywords of your competitor sites. If they have better keywords than your site then your ranking goes down and vice versa if their keywords are worse than yours. That is they patience is needed when doing SEO work.

Most of the discussions that I have read couldn’t predict the time or duration when the SEO methods done will take effect. In one discussion, it was said that it can take days or weeks or even months for the effect to take place. In other words, SEO is not an exact science when it comes to the time element. But what’s important is the assurance that what you are doing for SEO will take effect sooner or later. And it all boils down to the ranking that your link gets in the search list.
