First Writing service Online

Hello everyone, especially to those freelance writers. I have a friend who wants to be a freelance writer online, since I am not a writer I don't know where she should start. So here is my question. How did you start your first online writing gig? And how did you apply for it? Do you know any website that pays writers to write an article?

There is a sister site called "WordClerks" where you can create your writing service. I am not sure how much traffic the marketplace has but it is worth a try to add a service.

You could possibly add a service on seocheckout, then add another one on Wordclerks, however the service can not be exactly the same - this should guarantee a few extra sales.

I have not created a writing service so I am not too aware of how well they do. This marketplace (seocheckout) is primarily for seo related services. If you create an article that is seo-optimized then you could potentially get sales on this marketplace.

Also, if I were you I would give your friend your referral link, just in case they were to purchase services you could get a 10% commission from each service they purchase. They would be earning money by the sale of services and you would be earning from their orders. Win-win situation if you ask me!

Thank you. I would do that, thanks you for this useful suggestion.

Yea I think am in support of the sites mentioned above, they are great sites for freelancers and it's profitable.

I think the marketplace of this site is open for offers of service. I have seen some posts about providing content and other kinds of writing services like articles and stories and even blogs. Just check on the marketplace and see the related posts there so you can have an idea on how to go about posting your service. But be aware that there is a competition on prices so you have to be considerate with your prices in order to get clients.

It was about 4 years ago when I started my writing career. I was reading an article at a site called Money Pantry and there was an article there with a writing opportunity link so I tried clicking it. I got to a site which buys articles but only if they like it and so I tried submitting 3 articles at first and they bought 2 of them, this started my online writing career.

Wow nice it is amazing that you started off right away and got your content bought at that instance. There are many writers who tend to struggle at first but with determination one truly does get paid for their work.

Yea I think he is very lucky and it's great to have a good luck like that to something people find very hard to do as newbie.

That's fortunate, I have heard about that site but never visited it. I will visit in later, now that I know that it is a legit site.

I have also heard about money pantry site before but I was not able to work from it since I am having a limited time before but maybe in the future I will try to work on it since I heard that the site pays very well.

I think he said he was reading an article there and saw a link that took him to another site where he submitted his articles for review. The site that bought his article isn't Money Pantry, I think he should be specific.

You were a lucky newbie back then. It is not really common for everyone to start strong and fruitful. That's a nice inspiration for those who are beginning as a writer but doesn't have the confidence in making it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Yea he is really lucky, not all newbies are as lucky as he is. Sometimes few just give up because freelancing didn't favour them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Wow that's great, I know how much time most freelancers have put into looking for a good site to sell their articles online but up till now they are still finding it difficult. Happy for you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
wow, you must be a really great writer, I bet if I am in your shoes, all my works will be rejected.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
I refuse to accept that your writing will be rejected, they is something unique about every writer, you may not notice it but others can.

I found a website that asked me for a writing sample. I sent it in and they approved me to be a Contributing Writer. After that, I kept looking for similar sites and when I found them I signed up to write. The rest is history.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
what is the name if the website? Well, that's good for you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

cmoneyspinner
The name of the first website that accepted me as a Contributor was Suite101 and it was based in Canada. It no longer exists or if it does I can't find it anywhere! LOL. The second site was a banner that I clicked on in an eMail that my friend sent to me. It said all writers were welcome - experienced or newbies. I figured: It's free to sign up. What have I got to lose?" That site is HUBPages.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
is that site still exist? is it world wide?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Hub pages still exist and it is worldwide but I don't know about the other site that he is talking about.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

cmoneyspinner
The first site that I mentioned, Suite101, does not exist. But HUBPages does exist and it is worldwide and as far as I know, it is still accepting writers. Many of the writing sites I have joined still exist, but they have also stopped accepting new writers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Wow that interesting to know, but how did it take because some takes almost forever to give me feedback on my sample.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

cmoneyspinner
It's been a long time but as I recall I got feedback very quickly. What I was slow about was submitting my first article. The site allowed you to pick your topic and also work at your pace. There were quotas or deadlines. That's one of the reasons I applied. No pressure.

It's the same way with HUBPages. No pressure. Also with HUBPages, you can ask for a review of your writing. They have editors who will help you. Your friend really should try HUBPages. If it's doesn't work out, no biggie. But if it does work it, it can be profitable.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Thanks a lot on this one, have tried Hug pages once before but I didn't understand how they operate so I left it but I will give it a try.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you Alex, I have a freelance job before and it will took a week to have a feedback and another week or two to have my pay.

Freelancing is not as easy as people think because they are more freelancers than we think, it's like a competition Now.

I think you should make a PDF with the writing sample. Or simply do more guest posting and send the writing sample as with those links for him to check out. That way you don't have to write for them. Never write custom sample articles for the websites.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

cmoneyspinner
There are two different sites – BrandYourself.com and About.me ~ you can use to display a sort of resume or links to your writing samples. On my About.me profile, I show links to Medium, a site where my article writing is on full display. On my BrandYourself page, I show my work experience history.

Yes those are definitely good place to start with for the portfolio. I can tell you that I tried making my own wordpress portfolio site. But eventually closed it because I was not maintaining it. I may have to try out other portfolio websites in future.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think upwork and freelancer are two good places. Then there are some low cost writing services too. You can join those. And build portfolio. And if things work around you can increase the prices and work with better clients. That is what I have seen to be working these days.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Yeah I heard Upwork is good site for freelance writer. I think the site is legit and offer a good payment. But for the beginner I think you need to study first how this online works.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
I think if you want consistent results out of the freelance projects. I think learning how to get the leads from the writing gigs is a bit tough task. But if you work on the skill hard enough. That is not the hardest skill to achieve. In fact in a year or so you can definitely get that skill and it may work out.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
You need to focus and keep learning as harder as you can. In the end you will be the one who get the credit on it and benefits lots of thing from it.

Yes I am going to work on new portfolio website. And hopefully that should help me get some regular basis. And it can be something I would be going for the writing basis. I think adding the testimonials may also helps out get new writing gigs.

That is correct. I am looking forward to your new portfolio. I hope that you will finish it immediately so that I can check it online.

I have heard about upwork and I have a friend who have sidelines there and he said it was really a good website.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Yea Upwork is a very good site and I can recommend it to anymore, but I just have to tell you that you have to be very lucky to get approved but it's worth a try.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

focusedwriter10
I agree but joining Upwork as a writer is not easier nowadays. I have tried severally, but they always reject me on the basis of having more freelancers offering the service.

On the other hand, joining freelancer is much easier, although the competition is higher, and most clients pay peanuts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
Oh that ia really unfortunate, there might be a lot of competitions there, that's why they don't accept easily?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
I think Upwork is really something else, it's a good site indeed but they hardly accept reviews and sometimes they can make someone fed up trying to join it, I have submitted my review countless times but I still don't know where the problem is coming from.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Among the two of them I think Freelancer is easy and accessible than Upwork, if you can get your review accepted in Upwork then you are good to go but Freelancer doesn't waste time, you can set your profile and start earning easily.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The freelancing world has evolved quite a bit since I landed my first writing job. It was on freelancer. The client was looking for writers from a specific region. I happened to be the first to respond. An entry level job it was. Made less than $10 for a 500 word article. That's how I got started.

@OP, your friend could register on sites like upwork but should be willing to accept low paying jobs at first. Once you get a few good ratings from satisfied clients, you can apply for higher paying jobs. Employers mostly look for highly rated writers first. Aim to impress your first clients and you'll reap the rewards afterwards.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
Oh thank you for that advice, I will tell her that. She knows that she need to start at really low payment and she's ok with it.

I am not a writer too. I never started my plan to write an article. I think most of the freelancer tried Upwork and other related site for a writer. I believe it would help your friend to check that site.

Yes, I will tell her about upwork.

I started freelance writing around 2015 and left because I got a better offer offline. I started writing for someone locally. However I picked up online writing in 2017. The best place to start is an online account, if you can find one. An online account like text broker will get you started. If you are a good writer you will get some good money. The problem with it is that it is not opened to International writer so in essence you have to be a Native English speaker.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
The issue that I had with text broker is that of not being able to write there since I am not a native English speaker. Aside from that, I believe that it is a site where anyone that is fully determined can get to work and earn as well since they offer greater and better services to both the clients and the freelancers working on it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
My friend can write english article really well, but she is not a native English speaker.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

focusedwriter10
The issue is not about writing well. I had the account but getting an order is very difficult. The issue is about your location. Such accounts accept users from places such as the US.

Have you heard about Postloop? It's a good opportunity for your friend, tell her to search for it and earn money from it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's against the rule of the forum Seocheckout to be mentioning Postloop. Maybe you are not aware of this, so I'm taking the opportunity to inform you so that you don't get into any trouble for breaching the community rules and regulations.

Stay and write safe my friend.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well for one thing, Ionicware (the company that owns seocheckout) has another site called WordClerks which is dedicated to freelancing writers in the same way that Seocheckout is dedicated to webmasters. There you can provide writing services for a set price, as well as discuss writing opportunities with fellow freelancers. The site has been thriving so I’d say it’s a good place to start.

There are also content mills like Content Gather, but it’s hard work for menial pay. The number one thing I’d recommend is for your friend to invest some time into establishing a good portfolio or other example of their writing abilities (such as a blog) and offer their services personally to different sites.

It wouldn’t hurt to establish a profile on freelancing sites like Upwork as well.

I am not a professional writer but I do write sometimes as a stress reliever. However, my first writing job didn't really require my creativity as a writer I believe because the first job I got was a transcription job where I transcribed audio files. Although it isn't really that centered on creative writing, still I consider that job as a writing job because I had to write down/encode all the words and sentences that I've heard from the audio files.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
With my little experience in doing transcription jobs, even though it pays but the stress of the job is too much when compared to the money it pays. Transcription jobs requires 100% activeness before you can earn money from it and you definitely have to do a good job before you earn. I would say it's a bit stressful job.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
True sir Martinsx1. It's such a stressful job that requires all of your attention. As a person who does a lot of things every day, transcribing was the kind of job whom I really had to do after finishing up all my house chores and other freelancing tasks. Now, I don't apply for transcribing jobs anymore because of the little pay I get from over working myself because I had to focus a lot on it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
How long did you manage to hold that job for? I think it might be that I just worked for a bad company, but I couldn’t do audio transcription for more than a week before feeling like I was losing my mind. It’s really easy work when the audio is intelligible and decent quality, but the company I worked had absolutely trash quality audio.

I mean, the audio from the Apollo moon landings was probably higher quality, so I just simply had to quit. It wasn’t doable for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Exactly. It's a complete disaster when you land on audio files that have trash quality. The site where I worked at actually has an audio tester but when I was still a newbie, I forgot to play an audio test of the file that I had to transcribe so I ended up working on a super trashy audio file that I completely regret working on it. Fortunately, just like you, I quit as well after a month or less I guess.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
The site I worked for had an audio tester as well, but the only problem was that all of their audio was just bad. It was really disheartening to test one file after another only to have each and every one be nearly indecipherable.

I don’t know what magical powers the other transcribers had, but clearly something was keeping their business afloat. Honestly, trying to desperately transcribe awful audio was one of the most stressful experiences of my life, and I really never thought it could be (at least not to that degree).

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
True. That's also what I experienced before. Almost every audio file was just so bad that I even confuse some to be non-English language files. However, I guess a lot of transcribers survive because they're kind of used to it already and so it kind of like their skills are already developed. And yes, that's true for me as well. When I saw a tutorial video on YouTube about it, I thought it would be easy, but no it wasn't and it was definitely a nightmare.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
oh, what website is that?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
While I am not making ends meet that much as I have not fully focused on writing, I believe that what the person should do is to try and get along with sites such as Upwork, Freelancer and the rest. Those sites can pay well as long as the person is ready to work and the good thing is that once you have the skills and understands the ins and outs of bidding, you will keep getting nice jobs from the site.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
UPWORK has been a great place for me to ply my freelance trade and I have make a decent amount of money from the site. It requires effort and commitment to excel on the site UPWORK but I did, so I'm definitely sure others will as well. I haven't managed to get any experience working on freelancer but I'm not ruling anything out because the future is still very much bright.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Jeane
It's much harder these days to be hired on Freelancer. I don't know why but it appears like there are so many people applying for writing jobs out there that your proposal may not even be read by prospective clients. That shouldn't discourage your from applying for jobs on the site though.

In order to find out if something will be good for you, you need to try it yourself.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

One of my first gigs was writing for a travel site that has since closed down. They were open to submissions from anyone, and paid a small fee of about $10 per article (it only had to be a minimum of 300 words, so it wasn't hard).

It was an easy way to basically blog and earn a small amount of money, I wish they still operated because I truly had fun writing for their site.

After struggling to get employment, I came across a blog that talked about making money online back in 2015. I read about sites where I could offer writing services.

The first site I signed was Freelancer, where I earned very little. I then signed up on Odesk. I Would advise your friend to start and learn along the way. You do not need to be great to start, but you need to start to be great. I have learned along the way. That's the only way, but she needs to improve her skills along the way.

For certain, as in any industry, there are a few excellent online writing services. most are terrible, but. You won’t discover any writing service that markets itself as a ‘awful’ service. So provide a attempt to one and examine its writing and customer support quality. The primary indicator of a good writing service is responsive assist, understanding of your requirements, and potential to supply your paper on time. As a freelance writer, I'm looking to make those necessities my priority.

I am not really a writer and I joined writing websites in order to improve my written English as hinted by our boss in the office where I work. The website that I was targeting were those accepting articles that you get paid when it is published. But I was brought to a forum that was quite a good place to make short posts but not really short though. After earning my first $10 from that site, I started looking for other forums with the same scheme that I was able to earn more.

Which is that forum that allows the posting to get paid. I know few but it's not good to write short posts because their earning may get sabotaged. So one needs to be thinking properly on that context. I think I should be joining any forums which allows us to get paid for writing small articles.

Urge your friend to post a service here on seocheckout. There are many great buyers on here that are looking for fresh work.

I know that when I first started out, it was hard for me to get sales. However, I would suggest to your friend that she has a portfolio of work that she can show others. This helps buyers see the quality of your work and is very important to have.

Wishing your friend the best of luck.
