How Would You Get More Traffic From Stumbleupon?

Stumbleupon is one of the best social bookmarking sites on the net  which is why lot of people visit the site to find interesting content. Once you submit a url - the moment stumbleupon users see it - they'll visit your site.

I'm thinking, if one plays their cards right, they can use stumbleupon to build their blog's readership.

I could be wrong. But if it is possible what strategies can one use to ensure you get traffic consistently from this social bookmarking site?

StumbleUpon is no longer StumbleUpon. It is now Mix.com. Quite frankly, I don't like it.. At SU, I had created all my links and they were public. When I was told that all I had to do was create a new Mix account and easily import my SU links I was OK with that. When I imported my links they were all automatically posted as “private”. That meant that I would have to go through all of my links and reset them for public viewing. SCREW THAT! That's just unnecessary time-consuming work for me to do. However, if you are creating a brand new account at Mix.com, maybe you could use it for traffic and a lot of other good things.

Thanks for this useful information. I was actually looking at opening an account and getting my links posted on that place, but fore to go through the manual links is something that I don't think I will have the time to go through doing. It is going to take a whole lot of time for me to fully complete that.

Thanks for letting us know about this. That's really frustrating if you have to change all the link to public one by one. Can you just select all and change to public?

Though I have an account at StumbleUpon, I am not really active on the site, as I don't really know how it works yet. I am not sure how Mix is different from StumbleUpon, I will go and take a look. I have always heard that StumbleUpon is a good place to bring traffic to our website, though I haven't learn how to do so yet. Hopefully Mix will make it easier for us.

A couple of years ago, when I was active on Helium dot com, a friend suggested me to get an account on Stumbleupon. When I found what the site coule be used for I began promoting links. I even receive traffic. However, later I stopped using stumbleupon because I was busy with other social sites. Then one day I deleted my account because I was no longer using. I did not realize that the site has now changed the domain name. Is this just a domain change or the site itself has changed the format. I will have to check this out.

It's not just a change of the domain name. The site has changed completely. It looks lovely and people can still use it for discovery and for sharing or promoting your links. But like you, I have other platforms I use for social sharing. Even when I was active on StumbleUpon, I didn't use it as often as I used my other social media accounts. It's still a nice site and new users will probably like it very much.

I just checked the site, it of course has a better design. Even the new name of the website is better. How did they got such as good domain name. They must have paid a hefty price for one word domain. If the website has the same basic function (a content discovery platform), I might not use it because I am already busy on other sites.

The thing is it's easy to get views on the website or the page. But the issue is that ads don't show up if they detect the user is from the stumbleupon. And even harder part. I have seen google adsense does not like the users posting links over there. So the thing is though sites such as stumbleupon help with views those are not good views.

I suppose the reason traffic from the site is viewed as low quality is because their users when they visit a site, don't hang around long enough for them to actually view and click on ads.

To be honest I don't know if this would negatively impact your rankings in the SERPs as this high bounce rate (if you get a lot of traffic from mix) would make it appear like the content posted on your site isn't valuable even if it might be.

Yes the issue is if google is considering the site as low quality. So it'd be something to watch out in that case. I personally think that stumbleupon is going to be discounted. who knows it could close down. the thing with Stumbleupon is not about affecting SEO. But on adsense side, you may not get paid for the click.

I did not know that. Thanks for the information. I thought stumbleupon was just the another social bookmarking site to share my contents. But them I am not using this site anymore.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes it is for sharing the content. But the thing is that it gets discounted. and google does not shows the ads in the stumbleupon frame. So that's one reason people don't bother about stumbleupon anymore.

When I was using stmbleupon I noticed that it displayed content on frame when we clicked the link. None of other social book marking sites that I used displayed content on frames. Is that still the case now that the site has not only revamped but also rebranded?

Yes framed websites are not allowed for the google. They seem to be having some sort of hate towards the frames. And that's one more reason I think they seem to be having with the stumbleupon is that lot of people use it for initial traffic and not for ads.

I see. I find your explanation a quite clearer view of the said platform. But the first thing crossed my mind is the relation of the platform name and its use and purpose. Upon reading your comment, it also makes me think twice before engaging or in short a sort of discouragement. But I still want to try it by myself for future use and yes maybe you're right that there are still other useful things to be enjoyed there.

Very useful details my friend and I feel deeply sorry for you for all the troubles that you are facing with your account. It seems like the process has been made difficult for those who are used to the site and as such hectic to generate traffic but I hope that you can work around them.

Do you mean to say that when StumbleUpon changed to Mix dot com all the links that you had posted there had to be reposted to the new site? I guess it is just like saying that the links you had in StumbleUpon have been trashed and has no use anymore since the site is gone and the links have gone with the site. You are right that you need not post anymore because it is frustrating.

Getting traffic from any social network is the same throughout.

Go to the site and sign up.
Get as many friends as possible and engage with them. They have to know your interests.
Start providing links but ensure that they link to blogs that are of high quality and answer peoples questions. Have a good introduction to the links.
You are meat.

There is a mix of comments that I got confused. But what sticks to my mind is the change of name that Stumble Upon is now mix dot com. I wonder why a platform with so many subscribers would change the domain name. Is it connected to the change of ownership? Now if the new site called Mix dot Com works like a search engine regarding contents then I guess it will still be beneficial for content writers.

I would have been happy with the change and the transfer over of my content. But all of my social shares via StumbleUpon were PUBLIC. I set them to public on purpose because I wanted people to be able to find them! When I transferred my SU content to Mix, everything was automatically set to PRIVATE. It was too much to go through all of that stuff and switch it back to public. So I forgot about it! That's why I say new users might be happy with it. But if the old users are like me they don't want to do all of that extra works recreating new collections, setting them to public, etc. I have other priority work tasks and that, to me, was just made up busy work that I didn't need to do.

I've not heard much about stumble upon. I wonder how it ways in comparison to sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. I have my doubts about the social media site, stumble upon. I think the sucess of any social media marketing strategy is the number of people who actually get to see whatever it is you are marketing. How much of an audience does stumble upon have ? It would not make sense if not many people are on it.

Stumblupon is a social bookmarking site. Social bookmarking is different to social networking. Social networking means you connect with people. Social bookmarking sites are content discovery platforms. If you find interesting content on the web, you can share them on social bookmarking sites and find easily when you want that content. You can also use social bookmarking sites to share your own content and increase visibility of your content.

I feel like Stumbleupon was all the rage for link sharing a few years ago, but honestly I hadn’t even thought of the site until I saw this thread. I think other ways of promoting websites have become more popular, so that might be part of why I just hadn’t heard of it for quite some time.

Stumbleupon allows you to use the bookmarks. So those bookmarks get visits from other users who are interested in visiting your website. It works just like most of the PTC websites work. You add URL into the system and people visit those sites based on the interest. And it can be easier to get traffic. Though how they react and use the site is a bit hard to say.

This is my first time hearing this platform so I have no idea at all, unlike others who have information about it already. But it's great that I passed by on this topic. Discovering new idea and platform might be useful to me in the future. I'll take a look and maybe I'll go back here to share what I think about on it.

I just submitted few links to Stumbleupon and I didn't get any traffic. Maybe it's because my article is not that so good.

Well, I haven't tried Stumble upon yet. It would be great if would benefit from it. I think I should give it a try. If I get a good traffic, then I'll come back and write a good review about it.

I have no idea what Stumbleupon is

Stumbleupon was a content discovery site. The name has changed but it works pretty much the same way still. Here's how they work:

Net users seek information on the web. They can use search engines to find exactly what they want or when they aren't looking for something specific they'll head over to sites like Mix.com. All the content posted on the site is shared by people who visit the site.

Now based on information you provide when you register, these sites will display content that might interest you. Think your FB newsfeed with everything that might not interest you filtered out.

With everyday use you may generate greater visitors with stumble upon, it is able to offer you most of the visitors every day or every week this is definitely relies upon on your work. Make posts with desirable photo, engaging description share your reviews and use descriptive phrases, use hashtags for promoting. Another choice is stumblepon paid discovery to get the site visitors.

I had 2 account on SU and even get some traffic. I had many "friends" there, but all is lost. Now I opened an account at Mix. I am quite skepitical about Mix. I don't like too much. I think it is worse than SU. It rather looks like Digg.

Well, I have heard for the first time about Mix which was previously known as Stumbleupon. I think the concept of sharing the links of the content you like online on this website is very interesting and I would definitely like to try it for some time before forming my opinion about its utility. If you have some good quality content to offer then submitting the links will definitely increase the traffic and Stumbleupon will be very useful in this regard.
