How to work from home as a blogger and generate a full-time income

It doesn't matter if you were just laid off or a stay at home mom, you can make money online from blogging if you really wanted to, but it's not some overnight type of success that you may think it is.  Bloggers around the world can potentially make millions from their content, some actually do, but those are the rare cases when they're in a niche and become the authority above everyone else.  It also takes months or even years if you're in a competitive niche before you see any sort of success like the big players, but the journey is well worth it in the end.

If you need money right now, blogging may not be the route you want to take, this is because your content won't generate a lot of traffic that can turn into sales for a while.  You need to continuously post content to your blog, build your audience, get backlinks, increase your search engine rankings, and always brand yourself or your blog when possible.  If you can constantly do these things, you can become an authority within your niche and see the traffic begin to roll in.

First off, you will need the right domain and hosting
No one can be a professional blogger and have YourDomain.blogger.com or be on a free WordPress hosting plan and get big.  You will never be taken seriously since you haven't spent a little bit of money on your own domain and hosting.  Don't worry, it's not that expensive and you can do it all today.

I really like NameCheaps support system, so I started moving all of my domains and website over there, and I haven't been disappointed yet lol.

What you'll need to do is figure out a short and catchy name for your website.  Don't worry what if it's not super catchy, the search engines will still love you if it's not what you really wanted lol.  Just remember that it has to be easily brandable later on so be sure it's short enough for people to remember so they don't have to search for you online.

Your hosting shouldn't be a big deal, you can actually purchase your domain as you buy the hosting, so just start out with a smaller hosting plan so you don't waste any money.  You can always upgrade your hosting plan as your website grows, just like all of us do, so be sure to watch your bandwidth just in case you get close to exceeding it.  If you go over your bandwidth with your hosting you might notice your website go down, which is pretty common with hosting companies, so upgrade when you need to in order to stay up and running.

Understand and implement SEO whenever you're writing
If you know the basics of SEO from the beginning you'll be better off in the long run.  If you know it now you won't have to come back later and edit your posts, titles, tags, etc. in order to please the search engines.

You should know how to write content, if you don't then you should outsource it to a credible writer, if you can do this you will get traffic organically over time from all of the major search engines.  In time you will get traffic immediately after a post because the search engines will index your right away

You should already know plenty of information about your niche, so start writing!
If you're just starting off then you should focus on a niche you already know plenty about.  I know a ton about SEO and marketing, so I would start off in this niche, but that's an extremely competitive one so I would start off somewhere else.  I love animals, especially reptiles, so I would likely focus on some sort of herpetology blog to publish content about any reptile I could think of   Focusing on something you're very familiar with will make your content flow much easier and make it not feel like you're working

Know how you're going to make money before you even start
If you aren't sure how to make money online from your blog, you shouldn't start writing any of your posts.  You need to know if you're going to become an affiliate of certain businesses if you're going to post Adsense or other ads on your website to make money whenever someone clicks on them, or if you're going to sell someone's products and dropship them.

Most people get into affiliate marketing because it's the easiest way to make a decent commission on a product without knowing anything about it and you also don't have to talk to the customer who purchases

Start running PPC campaigns to build your traffic
When you understand SEO, know your niche, know how you're going to make money from your blog, and you've implemented all of this then you can start thinking about building your traffic through advertising.  Some niches are relatively cheap when it comes to PPC traffic, but some are incredibly expensive, so be sure to do the proper research and know what you're getting into before you start.

You can always build a Facebook following for cheaper than it would cost to send traffic to your website through Google Adwords.  This is because Facebook seems to charge less when you're building a following compared to sending someone off of their website, which will just set you up for future marketing later on that is free since you're just talking to people who have followed you   Building your social media following is great, but you should always run multiple PPC campaigns if possible so you can get in front of as many people as possible.

In conclusion
Making money from a blog is more than just posting an article once a week and making $3,000s from it.  You need to nurture your blog like it's a lifeline and you will die without it.  Know your niche, understand SEO, know how much you should be spending on advertising, and you should see people coming to your blog more often
