Finding a Graphic Design internship is going to be easiest while you are still in college, so for any potential design students who might be reading this, keep that in mind. I went to college for Graphic Design and Advertising, and we had plenty of internship programs available for aspiring graphic designers. The catch was that you had to be currently enrolled as a student at the college.

I personally didn't do any internships, because I wanted to be a freelancer right from the get-go, but I had peers who signed up for the programs. Just about everyone who signed up for the internship program received a job right out of college, so I'd definitely recommend biting the bullet and going for an internship as early as possible.

If you're aiming to be a freelancer, be prepared to bite many more bullets.

I went into graphic design not wanting to be tied to anyone, so I don’t work for any agencies or anything like that.

The way I originally found work was by mainly operating in my local area. People often open small business and such around here, and naturally they need a graphic designer for fliers, logos and such. That is where I find most of my work. Online I have profiles on sites like Upwork and Elance, but given the competition, it’s a lot harder to find work there.

I think with the graphic design firm you need better designers and the developers. You can see that there comes work in small batches. And then there are times when there is no work at all. So you may have to manage the dry days. And also manage the other expenses. You can see that some of the time that may work around. And not all the time you have to focus on the small prices. When I was in college, I had many friends in the architectural department that they have shown their talent in drawing.
