What are your blog/forum goals?

My goal for my blog/forum is to be the best in my niche. Unfortunately I have been getting hit with one setback after another. My VPS crashed on me. My cloud backups failed and I lost a bunch of posts and my worst setback yet is I am moving and my wife and I have one income and I am going to be forced to shut down my game server for the website. On the plus side of things I still have the website and I am getting around 18 posts a day which makes me very happy.

My blog is about growing bonsai, which is my passion. As I still regard myself as a bonsai artist in training, it wouldn't be fair to aim to be the best in my niche. Instead I aim to inspire those with less experience than I have to follow their passion and become the best bonsai artists they can be. With that goal in mind I write about my failures as well as my successes.

You are a very generous person as to think of other bloggers before your own benefit from your blog. It would be great to read your blogs even if I am not fond of bonsai because I am attracted to what you said about the failures that you have experienced. That is truly a way of inspiring others to follow your lead in bonsai farming. You may not be the best in your niche but you are one good blogger with a golden heart.

I do not have any forum or blog goals, but i do have website goals that are not part of a forum or blog. My goal is to earn around $5,000 USD per month with the sales of my scripts. I am no where near that goal. In fact, I am not even close. I utilize many marketplaces to sell my PHP scripts (the service i offer here) and i rarely get sales. However, I am actually creating more scripts now, and I hope to have at least 5 different scripts before the new year, and that is really close. So with my intital goal of earning $5,000 USD per month, after that it would be about $5,000 USD per month, or $56,000 per year from my script sales. This figure is really high as i love to set such high goals for myself that seem impossible because i learn A LOT if i do so. I get desparate and start researching, so this benefits me the most. I have learned so much in regards to marketing, advertising, and even programming because of my outragious goals. My ultimate goal would be to earn more online than i do at a 'real' 9 to 5 day job. That is my ultimate goal, and i hope it one days becomes a reality. This type of work online would definitely make me really happy if it were to become reality, one can only hope, wish, and dream.

I have two goals for my blog. The first is a way to provide prospective clients real-world examples of my writing. So, my blog is "general interest", which gives me the opportunity to write samples on a variety of topics. The second goal is for the blog to generate enough revenue to be self-sustaining, which it is. While I would not consider the actual revenue high, the return on investment is outstanding based only on the ads and affiliate links.

It's important to have goals for your blogs and forums and it's good to hear that you are aiming to become the best in your niche. It will be tough but with a lot of hard work and determination you will do well and I wish you the best of luck.

Well, the most important thing is that you haven't lost your motivation or passion. I think that obstacles are there to make us stronger. I believe that if you will keep it up, you will soon be making some extra money and be able to reopen the game server.

As for my own goals, right now it is just to keep expanding and growing. I want more unique visitors even though that the numbers have been steadily increasing. I always prefer to set my goals high.

I agree having a motivation/passion for a website is the only way to succeed and even then it's still going to depend on what level of success that you're after. To me success is a steady flow of quality posts every day and putting my best effort into the website.

I know that I need to change it up to get more visitors, and I am going to be working on that very soon. Right now I need a new hard drive so bad that I can't even put doors down in minecraft because they keep disappearing lol. Once I get the PC fixed I am going to be starting to write more how to articles to try and bring in organic visitors from google searches.

P.S. I wish you the best of luck with your website, and I hope that it keeps growing and expanding for you and your visitors go way up.

My goal is same to you because I also have a few blogs and a forum and I wanted to have them as the best ones in its niches.
But to be honest, it is not easy at this time because there are more competitors out there.

On the plus side of things I still have the website and I am getting around 18 posts a day which makes me very happy.
Congrats but I think it doesn't depend on the amount of posts that depending on how quality they are.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree there is a ton of competition out there and there are people with way deeper pockets than I have. And there is no way that I can compete with that. But as long as I am making my blog/forum content to the best of my ability then that's all I can ask for.

And as far as posts on my forum, I keep a tight quality control over the posts on the forum. Because your right poor quality posts will run a forum with a quickness. And having said that if you run your forum with a iron fist your going to lose all your members.

Competition is so stiff these days because starting websites, blogs, and forums is so incredibly accessible. I don't think that it has ever been this easy to own your very own website, so a lot of people are getting in on it. I think the most important factor that will separate you from your competitors is your willingness to put continual effort in and work towards your goals. Because it is so easy to start a site, a lot of people are in it to make a quick buck. However, these people usually lack the endurance and patience to put in continual effort, and time will weed them out, leaving only those are truly dedicated to their business.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Soulwatcher
I agree it doesn't take long to weed out the people who are in it for the money. They either buy content or make their own content and throw up some ads and wait for the $150's to start rolling in and when it doesn't happen they fold up shop in 3 months or less and I have even seen people close a website after two weeks!

My goal is for my forums to have 10,000 posts each and 4,000 visitors a month each. However, though, the first goal is easier than the other as advertising is thru the roof. Nonetheless, I think it's obtainable. Basically, it will require a lot more research into free and paid advertising.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Soulwatcher
I just wanted to give you a little fyi . In the past I spent a lot of money on advertising and it got me nowhere. And I know a guy who spent $60k on paid posting and advertising and it got him nowhere too. Sure it got him over 100k posts. But as soon as he stopped with the paid posting his forum died off with a quickness.

And there are people that haven't put any money into their forum and they have over 1 million posts. So the moral of the story and my advice to you is don't put anymore money into your forum than you're willing to lose.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DarthHazard
I don't want to complain too much about paid posting considering I do it to earn a bit of money on the side. But it is not at all effective. If you are lucky then you will get one or two users that end up staying on your forum and become active members. Other than that it is just not effective except for increasing your forum post count. It is just better to work on other aspects of your site to bring in users

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Soulwatcher
Your right paid posting is not a effective way to keep members. But it is a way to build content and if you have a website with 0 content then your never going to get any posters period. No one is ever going to post in a forum with no posts.

And on top of that you have the fact that forums are dying and dying with a quickness. No one wants to take the time to post on forums anymore. All you have to do is make one post on a facebook page and in about 10 seconds you have replies that start coming in and usually last all day. Social media will dominate until forums can offer users that kind of experience.

4,000 visitors is easy but to get 10,000 posts is not easy unless they are normal posts. For me I only need 1000 posts each month but they need to be high quality.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Soulwatcher
I see you keep saying you need high quality, but the simple fact is people are not going to provide high quality posting all the time. And if you delete members post they are going to get really upset and quit posting on your website.

My goal is to record my creativity and my life's experience. I have yet to share my blog in the manner in which I would like to but I am not ready. I have to first create a blog that allows me to post more topics and accordingly word the title of my blog. The present blog has just one niche

Currently I'm not running any sort of blog or forum, but I do intend to start a blog in the coming months once my financial situation stabilizes and I have a good chunk of time to dedicate to it. I'm definitely going into the experience with the expectation that I'm going to have some setbacks, whether they are big or small. Most endeavors require some element of risk and no experience is going to be smooth ride. There will be bumps and there might be full-blown crashes, but it's important to pick up from where you left off and keep going. I'm glad to hear that you're not letting your setbacks get to you, and that you are maintaining a positive attitude through your experience. Keep going!

I have a couple of websites, a personal website, and a couple of affiliate stores. I want these websites make money for me.
My blogs and websites are not earning me. Spending time on my blogs and websites means losing money (because I could have spent the time working on a high paying assignment. Nevertheless, I give time for my blogs and websites in a hope that they will profit me in the future.

I have same blog goal for my blogs.I just to better every day with my content and see how I can increase my traffic and monetize it to the best of my knowledge.I have not been getting the kind of traffic I anticipated but I believe I will get there soon.

Monetizing is not currently on the top of my list right now because I'm still going back to business, haha. I want to reestablish the base so that I can return with everything (the way I'm planning) and be able to begin to tread the paths that I am hoping to achieve.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think monetization should definitely be near the bottom of your priorities especially when you just start out or if you are still growing. You should focus on other aspects of your blog and concentrate on getting regular users that visit and read all your articles because you start worrying about the money that you want to make from the blog.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Monetization is definitely on my list of activities but I want to feel safe enough (with quality content posted and I want it and a well crafted design for it). For now, I'm just planning... But the whole thing is already taking a nice shape.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Soulwatcher
I agree unless your getting 1,000's of views a day I wouldn't even bother monetization a blog or forum. Because your not going to make any money and your going to drive off potential members because they are going to think your soly in it to make money. Most people only accept ads on established websites and even then they run adblock.

I don't own a forum but blogs. So most of my blogs goal are writing content and getting backlinks to those posts. In case of the forum. I am mere a participant. So I try to give my best so that the forum content can thrive. So I try to give value to where I post on forum. And in case blog I have to use same strategy with more efforts. And also I have to learn about how to adjust with the different type of the traffic and the people and their approach towards the forums. That's what I am learning as of now.

I am hoping to get more members in my forum as well and add more content which will drive the traffic and also build on the members with my content and them add content. Primarily, my goal is to write quality content. The type of content that makes people feel like they're informed and interested enough to engage. Knowing when I publish my articles/threads, they are well received among the community discussion board. My second goal became to host the content I write on my own blog/forum, which I'm now doing. This position is key because you're situated to monetize what you write in different ways. From placing ads on your site, to writing affiliate articles. I still like writing for others, but now I'm entering the site owner's perspective of blogging and article/content writing.

For the most part, I'd say I'm achieving the initial goals I set out for. To be clear, we all go through setbacks (some worse than others). But if you're passionate about something and persistent enough, you will prevail!

Yeah, that should also be taken into consideration, when it comes to writing good content, there are many things that comes into play, which makes it extremely hard to scrap out the best content for the purpose you intend to write on. Especially been bereft of ideas, that is also one of my goals, so I can keep up with my ideas.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JonathanS98
Sometimes, it's not the easiest to continuously write. What I've come to notice, is that too many ideas can actually be just as bad as not having any ideas. That's why I'm thankful my forum is a general discussion board. Covering pretty much all topics discussed daily amongst the society. But we seem to have the same goals for when it comes to blogs/forum, as well as writing content.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Exactly, when you get occupied with too many Ideas, you hardy know which one to dive into and you can hardly put your tenses together, I have experienced such and it is really a bad scenario, called knowledge over load, but you can put it down on a list and try to get your self in one piece.

I want to increase the traffic to my blog and post more regularly on there. I am taken up with some urgent offline works and can't really concentrate on my blog. My goals for my blog is to improve my writing skill. It is big challenge since I'm just getting started and while I was still studying writing is not my passion. And English is not my primary language. Committing myself to blog forces me to acquire more knowledge every day to broaden my point of view on the niche that I'm passionate about.

My goals for forum is to get connected with different people to share my ideas and also to learn more. There are lots of knowledge that you can learn from forums. Being able to exchange ideas to different people also helps to expand my knowledge.

Currently, I don't own any blog or forum but I'm definitely taking my time under the guidance and instructions of competent individuals that are already in the business and I have good and high hopes that once I'm all set to kick off my blog, it's definitely going to be a top notch level blog/forum.

My only goal in my blog is to have a hundred regular readers. That is consolation enough that can prove my efforts are worth it. One writer mentor always say that you write for your readers and how can that be if there are no readers in the first place? I know that blogging involves money but I am not focusing on that for the moment since I earn good from my full time job. I also plan to have a forum someday that will focus on a common niche, i.e. pets which is my passion.

As a blog owner, I have recently realized that I can't make money with a blog that has a very low traffic generating potential. After a few years of running this blog without making a penny, I realized this simple fact about making money online and easily figured out what needed to be done in order to make money with a blog. I don't really have high goals for my blog as I consider it mostly as a hobby, still, so as long as I know I can get a good amount of an audience and I know that I can earn from it somewhat then I would be fine with it. I just want to be able to get some money from my ads that would be enough for me to justify the time I am putting in when writing articles and fixing the designs. If it gets even more successful than that then I would be very happy, obviously, but I am just trying to temper my expectations for now.
