Visual Search Engines - The future of Search!

For a while now the online Search and SEO community is buzzing about a growing trend that will probably take over the future search engines: Visual Search Engines.
Visual Search Engines - The future of Search!
Classic search engines are basically text-based inputs resulting in text-based outputs (search results). Recent years had shown us a slight evolution, the same text-based input but with varied results like video results and image results,

So what is a visual search engine?
A visual search engine uses images or videos as an input instead of a text-based input. The result will be still visual based but these type of technology will help people identify objects or visual concepts they have no words about or unable to put it into text-based inputs.

1. A real company that is moving toward a visual search engine of the future is Pinterest.
Visual Search Engines - The future of Search!
Pinterest realized that it has no chance in front of Google so they focused on offering something completely new and fixing problems a user may have in a totally new way: by offering visual based ideas, without the need of text or even words. Check out Pinterest Lens for more info on this technology Pineterst is using.

2. Google will try conquering this search niche with products like Google Goggles.
Do you think Google will be left behind and let Pinterest have all the glory? Never! Google Goggles is basically an app capable of reckoning images.

3. Bing will try getting into this too.
Check out this video about Bing Visual Search:

What do you think? Are visual search engines the logical next step in search engine evolution or is this bound to fail as plenty other promises trends announced over the years?

I personally am torn on this. On one hand, I believe search needs to evolve and will evolve constantly. On the other hand, I believe people will value simplicity in the end. If they'll manage to transform a visual search into a simple more easier task than to just type an input query, then yes, I believe visual search indeed has a future.

Visual search engine is a good innovation they can ever do. I am in favor of this as long as they make sure it's just an addition and not a replacement for text-based inputs. I prefer keeping them both so the users can enjoy more flexibility. It would be also better if they launch it once it is fully operational. A lot of people are using search engines everyday for important purposes. We don't want a search engine that is a work in progress to interrupt with our important researches. I have nothing against this innovation. It is indeed a nice feature that makes searching very attractive. Just make sure they launch it when it's fully operational.

I am also waiting for the beta version of this visual search engine because of the innovation. Maybe I would be giving it one full day for testing not really for the efficiency but more for the novelty of it. But I know that when this visual search engine is deployed in the internet there will be a better use that will be discovered by the users sooner or later although I still would say that the text search is still the best.

I confess that every time I think about it, my mind gives a knot difficult to be untied. But I completely agree that the future of searches is exactly the one that you posted. Of course, it will still take many adjustments before the thing starts to work as well as possible, but things are going that way.

In fact, this topic - by the way, thanks for it - gives a great idea of what is to come (and it's clear that Google won't stay out of competition).

Pinterest is moving toward a visual search engine? That makes perfect sense considering it's an image-based sharing platform.

Google Goggles? I'll stay alert for more on this development.

As for Bing? I suppose it's always good to have a Google alternative. (O.o)

I am not savvy to say that I thought visual search engines would be the logical next step. But now that they've gone down that road, I am interested in seeing where it leads.

I think that if you think about it, it does seem to be the next logical move for the growth of search engines. If we glance over the statistics gathered recently, we can truly see and understand what a big impact a picture or a video can have on the audience. And I believe that Google will easily overtake the market once again. They are very smart and are doing it nice and slow. I am pretty excited to watch how everything develops further though but I can definitely see visual search engines becoming a thing.

I think visual search is good for the visual content. But the thing is that not a lot of good content is in visual form. Like say apart from pinterest and youtube, you won't be finding much visual search usable. Some of the pinterest based content can be properly filtered there as well. But the thing is that visual search will be future with VR. Because technology such as that is what is needed these days. And people have to properly invest into this type of the skills as well. That's what I think.

Honestly, no, I don't feel that the visual search engines are the next step in search engine evolution. Yes, they will undoubtedly be an extremely useful tool, but I don't really see them taking over text based search engines. Why? Because text based searches are infinitely more useful. Text based searches are easy for the common person. You type in an idea or question that you have, and you get results answering that question. If you need an image result, you have image searches. They are just more practical. Visual search engines on the other hand? So far the only times I've used visual search engines is to reverse search pictures from girls I've met on dating sites, in order to verify that I'm not being catfished. Perhaps I'm just not all that knowledgeable or open minded to the concept, but I don't see many practical uses for the average person.

Yes, I agree Pinterest is and I have noticed even more people on Facebook and Twitter are using Pinterest. Would you consider Reddit to be one of these options in anyone's opinion as this is a powerful social bookmarking site but I do see it appear many places in the search engines a lot more than it use to?

Pinterest's popularity has been steadily increasing. I confess that I am quite surprised because I didn't bet much on it, but I see that I was mistaken... Haha! The competition will be tough and in the end, who wins with this are us, the users.

So, this is great! Visual Search Engines - The future of Search!

I've actually been using the Google Image Search tool for a while and I'm 50/50 about it, to be honest with you. It has worked a few times for me but it hasn't been able to find some images for me either so I guess it is still a bit of a work in progress. I guess when more people start to use it then it will become a lot better. Reverse Image Searches are definitely useful for content creators because you can quickly find the owner/creator of that image and then contact them to find out if they will let you use their image.

Hmm, it will be cool but I don't think just technology will be feasible in this dispensation, although it's not impossible, but this type of technology will require many things and hardware that will be in place and with the fact that Moore's law is coming to end, means this technology is likely, not to surface in this time space. But what do I know.

Most people like a visual representation it is one of the things that we might look forward to when we are looking for ways to see our options available. It is just one of the ways that teachers have used to reach students for years, so it makes sense in the selling realm as well.

I guess the visual search will not replace the present method of search using text for words and phrases. But the visual search is also good when you are looking for an image like the face of a person or the panorama of a place. Imagine when you have a photo that you cannot identify the location then that visual search can probably help you identify the exact place where the photo was taken.

I think that we are already half way to this revolution. People have changed the way the are consuming content. Most people when they are carrying out research on something make Youtube as their first port of call. We can also see social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram that are picture/image based are overtaking sites like twitter/facebook in popularity. These sites are mainly text bases. The revolution is already here.

Hello there, I believe your blog might be having internet browser compatibility problems. Whenever I take a look at your web site in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in IE, it has some overlapping issues. I just wanted to provide you with a quick heads up! Other than that, great site!
