Who inspired you to start writing?

Whenever you ask a well-known writer if they ever had any inspiration that made them begin writing, they usually answer yes. Initial inspirations very often have a big impact on the writers future work. It can be seen as those few extra pushes that we sometimes need to start believing that we're capable of writing amazing things.
I can admit that if it wasn't for my high school teacher that I would have never taken writing seriously. She was the one that always showed interest in the essays that I have written or the short discussions that we had to write after each class. She was my true inspiration to start believing in myself and in the things that I wrote. Without her, I wouldn't find this passion that's inside me. I love to express myself through writing - even if it's just with simple articles or stories, it's truly amazing to be able to create ANYTHING you want with words and your imagination.
So, tell us, who or what inspired you to even begin writing? Was it somebody you know personally? Or was it perhaps a famous author? Let's discuss!

I used to participate in various essay competitions while I was still at school and winning some of those competition is what further motivated me to continue writing. During my final years in college I participated in some national essay competitions at the request of my teacher. When I started University I had to do various reports, assignments and projects. All those helped me to refine my written communication skills. My project coordinator was largely impressed by my dissertation and I got very good marks due to it. Afterwards he offered me a part time job as a research assistant to help him with his research. Ever since I have been conducting research and helping him to write his journal articles.

God, yeah. Don't even remind me how much writing university took... it was like every single class there was wanted hundreds of pages written out. Or at least my courses did. I think that is when writing can help you greatly. I remember a particular incident where I would get a much lower grade but the teacher enjoyed how I wrote the whole essay so she gave me a 10 out of 10, haha

No kidding here--I was an English major, so the only thing I did at university more than write was read. I was constantly juggling different topics and papers for different survey courses. It seemed never-ending, and, looking back now, I still can't figure out how I got through it with the GPA that I did, so I identify with what you are saying here.

I can say that you are a certified writer with passion because you are at it since you were in school. You remind me of the days when we had to write long essays in school that never failed to give me a big headache. I admire people who are good in writing especially those writers who love to write. They are the easiest ones to approach about the craft and they are very accommodating with the questions you dare to ask.

I just always loved reading. I think loving reading and then writing is kind of a natural progression. I enjoy writing, and I can write, but I have no where near the skill level of some people who have either studied it in school or who have naturally good mechanical skills.

I think reading is the opening door for any beginning writer. Moreover, it is impossible to be a good writer without first being a good reader.

What inspired me to start writing was my love for filmmaking, actually. While I've had my hands on the camera and editing software for as long as I can remember, so the technical production and and post production side of filmmaking I've always been familiar with. When I was attending community college, I took a screenwriting course, and that's what really got me considering writing as something I'd like to pursue.

I've always been pretty good at writing essays and articles, and those are a great way for me to keep my writing up to standards and in check, but there's something about screenwriting that I love just so much more than those other avenues. I think it's that screenwriting gives me the chance to really be creative, create entire worlds, atmospheres and characters that inhabit it that makes it appealing to me. Plus, given that I have the resources, manpower and knowledge to bring a script to life if it's within reason, I think that's just one more thing that compels me to write: I can potentially make it come to life after I write it, too.

Nobody. I was an awful writer in my teen years I think. I used to read a lot so I was capable of writing down a few pages essay without breaking a sweat. Later on, I started a blog, again, I was an awful writer, maybe I just needed practice, but overall I wasn't a natural talent. It took me years to be able to write some decent articles in English.

By 2014 I still had a virtual store in the electronics segment, but my business was going bad. So I looked for ways to make money online before closing my virtual store. From this I became a freelance copywriter for a one site. After a few months I decided to open a site about Excel and tips. So from there I did not stop.

I've also never been a good writer in the past. But the need to make money has opened up the opportunity to hone this skill as a freelance writer. Today, in addition to writing for customer blogs, I also write for my own blogs.

That's pretty cool. So, you could sort of say that you were initially ''forced'' to improve your writing by other factors such as finance? Do you regret learning more about it and how to approach writing blogs/articles?

I've always loved to read but I never realized that it could translate to writing well. It was my Journalism teacher in high school who 'discovered' this. He encouraged me to join local, regional, and national writing competitions in essay writing and editorial writing for which I won and brought honor to the school. He appointed me as editor-in-chief of the school paper in my last two years in high school. Come to think of it, my parents never even realize that I can write. It was the teacher who saw my potential. So yes, he's probably the one who inspired me to write. I can say that I was a better writer back in high school because I had plenty of time to write then. When I took accounting in college, however, my writing talent stagnated as I had to read mostly technical books and had not time to engage in extra-curricular activities like writing.

My writing journey started in high school,I was a member of the press Club and we were taught how to write news articles and also present them.So I started writing and it became a hobby.So when I came online and realizes I can monetize it.I indulge it and here I am.

Writing is something I just developed because sometimes when I was tender I can just pick up a pen and start writing an article without any mistakes or having thought of writing the article, it will just be in a form of freestyle writing, so at a time while writing the article I will now be finding it difficult to round it up because I still have a lot of things to write about on that same article I just started with just picking a pen, with this I just looked into myself and pushed myself to just go for this, OP that's how it all happened thanks for a nice thread and question....

Since I was a kid, I loved to read - be it fiction or Non fiction. As I continued to read, I also felt an urge to write stories myself. I joined competitions, both local and regional. This continued up to high school. I kind of stopped when I was in college due to my grueling schedule.

After graduating, as I was browsing the web, I came upon an article about making money online by writing. This truly interested me. I did some research and got some sites that actually paid me by submitting articles to them.

I now have my own blog which I monetize via adsense. It's so nice to be earning some cash just by writing. B)

I like reading the horror stories. And that's what inspired me for the writing. And that's how I got into writing. I also do the paid writing of the articles. So that's another thing about the writing. You can see that some of the time it may not be that easy to do the work all the time. So I do the writing by demand and often have the money as motivation. That's what helps me the most.

I got into writing when my boss advised me to take a short course to improve my written English. But my husband said that instead of the short course, it is better to check the internet for writing opportunities. And he was right because the forum have taught me not only writing but also had increased my knowledge on anything under the sun. Isn't it great to learn and earn at the same time?

I would say my experiences got me into writing. A friend once told me, you had passed through a lot, why don't you share those stories? So, eventually I take some time and put my experiences on paper. I noticed I could that when I was a kid and used to have a girl diary where to put my notes, I used to read a lot unlike my friends, and if I ever felt bad, sad, happy, I was able to take my diary and start writing about my emotions on it.

My father worked as a writer and journalist. When ever I saw his name pop up on newspaper, magazines, and journals, I felt a great admiration for my father. When my father saw my first writings, he said well done boy, go on writing. later he invested money to get my first book published. I was 21 then.

I start reading this person with a Tumblr site and she wrote everything in such a fluid way I just wanted to experiment doing the same thing. That was in 2009 or so and then in 2010 after so much reading I finally started writing myself. It wasn't easy and it's not easy now but it's something I like doing.

The internet is the place what inspired me with the amount of websites and blogs around. One day I was looking at blogs reading and thought "I can do this".

From then on I been creating blogs and websites. Which I may start flipping a few of them but first am trying to build good quality links from.

My grandfather had a huge library, and I stayed with him often as a boy. If I read so many books a week, and could discuss them with him, he would buy me toys when we went shopping on the weekend. Along the way, though, I fell in love with reading in general. I am still in love with it. I ended up becoming an English major and even a teacher of this. I could name hundreds of writers who inspire me, but I need to give my grandpa credit for putting the love and reading, and therefore, the inclination to become a writer in me.

I'm an amateur writer but I wouldn't say I was inspired to start writing. I don't even read books to be completely honest with you. I saw article writing as a way of making money when I was younger and I started doing it. I guess I'm decent at it now.

I was inspired by no one in particular. I just loved to read a variety of books. It helped to build my interest in writing my own content be it fiction or nonfiction. I took this passion and transformed it into my own skill through the years.

Well, some would say I got into writing for the wrong reasons...

I was in search of an extra form of passive income that I could earn from my home. After a short period of time, I realized that things like micro jobs and PTC sites aren't worth your time. Because of that, it's best to invest into a long-term skill you can freelance. This led me to content writing which I am now passionate about. I'm thankful I got into content writing because it's also taught me valuable skills within SEO and internet marketing as well. So to be perfectly clear, yes, I did get into content writing for the sole purpose of money. Immediately after, however, I realized my passion for writing my own content and earning an income from it. So I guess it worked out in the long run.

I found your post very interesting here because many of us who were already into writing come here to see if we can make a buck at it, but you were in business and suddenly writing became your business when you began to freelance. You also sound like you really developed a passion for writing, and I think that is really awesome and something e both share. I, too, have learned a great deal from the forums from content writing in terms of SEO and also self-marketing. I never thought I'd get so into freelancing and working online, but I am really enjoying this learning experience,

Hi Joe,

I completely agree with you. If someone had told me that I'd be going down the freelance/content writing journey about 3 years prior. I wouldn't have believed them. It's not that I didn't think it was possible (nor legit) to earn money online from freelancing your own skill to clients. It just appeared out my reach. But since I've begun, I've learned so much about putting a bit of time and energy into a viable skill that will most likely increase in passive income earnings over time! Basically, this entire thing was unexpected, but a blessing in disguise.

I inspired myself to write because I love sharing thoughts and Ideas with people. I never had any formal writing class but my articles are good enough to get the point across and people seem to like them and they always tell me I do a good job. And to me that's good enough for me because I am not trying to profit off my writing skills, I write for my own interests. (my blog/forum)

Reading and writing was not my favorite activities during my school days. I just became passionate in writing when I started to love to read blogs and read books of different popular authors. I was amazed on how they touched peoples lives through their writings. The impact they're making to the lives of many people inspired me to start learning to write. Reading is my favorite past time,I read to learn and to relax. Every spare minute, I get I read. It follows that the best way to express my thoughts is to write. As I love to read I also like to research and find out more. This is one of the reasons that I love to write. I have motivated myself to write. Of course, it helps that I can earn a very healthy income from writing. This has inspired me to improve my writing skills. In my country writing is not really seen as a career so I have had to motivate myself.

You know, I really think those answers from famous writers are canned responses. They think they need to have the story about that one teacher or that one favorite author. Some of those stories may be true, but I truly believe most of that is manufactured.
