Are there any jobs you would refuse to do, regardless of the pay?

I only would refuse a job if I wasn't treated right if they didn't respect me as a human and my work and they didn't offer me a good payment, I would leave, and if they would call me back, I refuse it. In the rest I would not refuse any job because I am not ashamed to work, I'm not lazy and I do my best in my job so, I demand an equal pay.

You can refuse jobs for many reasons (general or even personal reasons), including but not limited to promoting:
Violence
Racism
Abortion
Euthanasia
Bashing other people Faith
Alcohol
Payday Loans
Pornography
Pyramid Schemes
MLM
and so on...

Great response here, and I agree with you. Many of your refused jobs have to do with the potential for violence or the potential violation of the rights of the individual or others in terms of their personal safety or rights. Having the personal ethics and moral qualities which keep you from some types of jobs is very commendable, and I have seen how having ethics has caused people a lot of loss of money and career issues because they do the right thing.

I agree to all of the reasons you posted in here. Even myself, I don't want to take part of the job with such nature as stated above. Or those jobs that put myself at risk of injury or fatality.

Those are good reasons as well, but If I would refuse a job contain such a reason I would probably leave without work for a long, long time. In fact, we cannot refuse a lot of jobs here because of is a lack of jobs in my country!

I also agree with you on those jobs that involve those that you enumerated.
But other than that, I don't like to be a surgeon or to be a nurse. I get weak whenever I see oozing blood from a person, how much more opening the body for a surgery.

I think that majority of the people, me included, will answer the same as you did. I would never take any job that wouldn't meet my moral beliefs (prostitution, illegal activities) or jobs that would mistreat me and take away my basic human rights. Other than that, I'd even work as a cleaner or at a Mcdonald's if I'd have to. I truly respect anybody that works. I don't judge people based on what sort of job they have... all that matters to me is that it is honest work.

Funnily enough, I actually have worked as a cleaner, so I can speak from firsthand experience here, haha. But yes, I agree with you that most people wouldn't take work that they feel is morally wrong, myself included. I've done many jobs that would be considered gross or undesirable, but none that went against my moral beliefs. I can tolerate just about any sort of work, so long as I can call it an honest day's pay.

Personally I will reject any jobs that has to do with violence, racism discrimination, Pornograhpy (including child Porn), abortion and all ponzi schemes. Even if the pay is good.

I agree with you, it doesn't matter if the pay is good, if a job contains or is influenced by violence, racism discrimination it should be refused. Is pity that there are people who are not stopped by these beliefs and they do accept such a job.

There are a lot of jobs I would not be crazy about doing, more than I could probably name. I just prefer to work in categories that I feel comfortable with. There are a lot of jobs I would not be successful at so I would not attempt them actually.

I would not be comfortable with jobs which may require me to belittle, hate, victimize, or abuse other persons. No matter how good-paying the job might be. I believe that myself or other persons so not have to undergo a situation where there is the air of inferiority or undue hostility.

I agree with you, I guess I could never hurt someone in any way if my job would require me doing so. That is unimaginable for me, I want a job where I should respect people and be respected by them!

exactly, my mom always says the job dignifies the person, it shows that person can make a value of his own, and doesn't need another one to depend on. But, unfortunately, there are people that keep their jobs or make themselves successful by exploding, victimizing, and abusing another ones. That is never a job, that is some kind of slavery, and I would never support or join that kind of "job".

I would not want to work in the military field. I'm afraid not only for my own life but I believe my poor decision making skills could risk the lives of others. I know I could learn through experience but experience does not come without a cost. I would also not work as a criminal or as a sanitary engineer. I'd love to work at home if possible.

I understand your fear on not working in the military field. You can find a lot of jobs working from your home, but you may risk on not earning enough money.

I will refuse a job if it is something that I don't know at all or have no experience at it. It would be a shame anyway, when I will accept it and they expect me to do good at it, yet I cannot deliver, no matter how high the pay is.

I want a job that is my previous experienced jobs. That way, I can excel in it. I hate working without excellence. I want the employer to be happy with what they pay me.

When we were in college, this hypothetical question came up in a quiz in our psychology class. I remember writing my answer as embalmer. I don't think I can do the embalming of the dead no matter how high the salary is. That's why I admire the embalmers that I know because they have the nerve to handle that job. And as they say, who would do it if they won't do it. Well, this answer may be out of line but still, it's one job that I wouldn't accept.

I am with you--I could not be an embalmer. I know a little about this because I am a friend with a taxidermist, but the process of preserving an animal, through sucking out all of the liquid in it, etc., is a bit stomach-turning enough for me. So, I can't imagine doing this with a human body...no thanks...

I would refuse to work as a doctor or nurse. I have always been afraid of blood, needles and hospital and abstain from going to the hospital as far as possible. If I am sick I usually go to the nearby pharmacy to get some over the counter medicines or I try some homemade remedies. I remember the last time that I had to go for a blood work. I was so panicked and was trembling like a leaf when I saw the nurse taking out the syringe. My best friend was with me and she tried to comfort me at this time but it was not easy.

I think any illegal and unethical activity would fall into case. I am sure nobody wants to be escort or prostitute. Nobody wants to be mafia. And nobody wants to be killer or something. Those are just not worth it no matter how good or bad you are inside. Those jobs once taken there is no way back. Though some want to come back but it doesn't end up very nice. It always ends the bad way. People need to understand that part as well.

I suppose there are quite a number of things that would be enough for me to refuse a job. I'm person who has his morals and lives life by sticking to them. If I would have to break my morals and do things such as lie, hurt or steal (whether it be directly or indirectly) that would be all it takes for me to refuse a job. A good income isn't worth losing sleep at night. The other conditions are obvious ones like not being paid respectably, being treated like a lesser person in the workplace, standard issue stuff.

Pay is not the only attraction for accepting any job. There are other criteria such as the kind of job, that I would never like to do. Then there is the position. If I am to work under someone who in my eyes is not fit to be there I would not take that job. These are some of the many reason one comes across where money is not the only criteria.

That is true Iamwriter, the pay is the biggest factor that may contribute to taking a decision about taking or refusing a job, but there are a lot of other factors that may contribute a big disappointment in our work.

In my opinion, I think it's depend on the situation of the person. You can ask someone who really need a job or live a bad situation, like have a family to take care of them and bring them food ect.... about this question, and I think his/her answer will be that he/she can bear anything to have that job, the important thing for him/her is to have that salary in the end of every month. And the answer will be different with someone who have a different situation.

Yes. Some of the common reasons for refusing a certain job regardless of the pay are already mention from the other posters above. But me on my personal point of view, I would refuse a job if it's of course illegal even if it pays 10 times more than the biggest company in the world. Lol. Another reason probably if I don't feel comfortable doing a the certain tasks or it violates some of my rights.

Nowadays I need money a lot so I guess I wouldn't refuse most jobs. Still, if a job was morally degrading I certainly would not take it. You can put a price on almost anything in this world but not on a man's dignity.

That's true. I agree with you. Its not all about the job but also about dignity to face the world. Its the job that you can be proud of yourself and not degrading your morals and worth.

Unfortunately, most jobs nowadays are degrading to a certain extent. Whether the pay is low or you work more than you should legally. Still, those are things we can and must endure to survive. When however we have to degrade ourselves morally, (Verbal or physical abuse) in order to stay employed that should be a red flag. There a are many jobs out there like I said but our dignity can't be bought.

True. Job needs to be having some dignity. Though some people can turn back from the negative type of jobs. And that also happens. But in long term this may not be the option for money. So it all depends on how the jobs which we consider bad are working for majority of the people. I have found that it may not be the case for many. Some accept jobs to meet the ends.

For instance, i am graduated in Physical Education. And there are some jobs in my area that I wouldn't take. Mostly because I find some activities they promote as a children supervisor degrading. Sure the pay is ok but the number of hours worked and the types of activities conducted are repulsive.

I think it also comes down to which type of job may work out for you. I have found that in some cases the jobs such as supervisor are not bad. You can make money. It comes to whether you want money or not. And that's where it changes things for me personally. I want money in hand. And for that I accept some type of safe jobs. And I guess that may also work out for many people.

I guess you are right, but dignity doesn't feed your children at home. If I would be in a hard situation and not be able to have another job and my dignity will suffer I would keep the job because my dignity may suffer but I would put the food on my family table!

I need money all the time, so, I would probably not refuse either some jobs. I understand your point of view Pedro, but in my case, I would give up my dignity for a better-paid job, because I have a family and two kids and we need as much money as I can earn.

I think the job that I would refuse is jobs that require interview through Skype. I have no problems with those jobs, it's just that I don't feel like my best during webcam meetups as I am not photogenic and I generally look terrible in cameras. I'd prefer a personal interview, but as that isn't viable when doing online jobs, I usually don't apply to those with Skype interviews.

I agreewith most of you in regards that I will never accept a job that doesn’t meet my
moral beliefs as in any type of discrimination, violence and so… Also since I’m
actually a nurse I would never do something to hurt people, I practically been
taught to “do well” and to try as much as possible to be a provider of care and
to assist the individuals as well as I can. I had so many jobs in the past-
before I was a nurse- and honestly there’s something that makes you proud about
making your own money and spend it well because you have earn it yourself. There’s
just nothing like that feeling of earning your own money…

I would refuse jobs that goes against my religious and personal beliefs no matter how big the pay rate is. There are some things more important than money. The adult industry is a big no. Same goes for jobs that harm your health after a long time.

This is a great decision to take when you are single and you are not married with kids. When you have a family at home waiting for you to bring money home you may not have this option anymore.

There's a lot of job that I will refuse even if it will pay me a lot of money. It include pornography, killing people, abortion, scheme and other things that against my belief. I won't do anything illegal.

I would never engage in sexual intercourse for money, never would kill someone for money or trafficking human lives/organs. This is a very sensitive matter, so my opinion is that people should not work on things that might compromise someone's integrity, dignity and always never jeopardize human lives.

Of course I would. First, I have to say that I would refuse anything that wasn't legal lol But thinking about regular (legal) jobs... I also would refuse a job were I don't feel comfortable and happy doing my thing regardless of the pay. I think that's kind of self love and self respect.

I remember that once when I haven't found a good job I worked illegally in a restaurant for more than a year. I am not proud of my decision but my wife gave birth and we needed money, and I didn't have any other solution.

There are plenty of reasons to refuse! In situations like these, I listen to what my heart is saying. One can be stifled to find that the job that they felt would be nice to have is not really all that it's made out to be. I have made tough decisions like these and had always made positive decisions that I do not regret making. And, so I am prosperous. Come to think of it, decision-making is a big part of being an entrepreneur. And, being an entrepreneur gives one a strong sense of independence and builds up one willingness to see the forest for the trees. Do you want to be stuck behind someone's desk giving you orders? Or, would you much rather make money for yourself all lifelong? You can make passive income being an investor, too. I will not: do anything that involves going in a cave (eg: mining), work in a nuclear power plant, work as a flight attendant, or anything that involves living on a boat (eg: Working on a cruise ship, Navy, etc).

I just recently refused a job to make a bot that would download a app thousands of times and write thousands of reviews on that app. Being someone that relies on reviews to help me make buying decisions that is something that I refuse to ever develop.

I would definitely not do anything which is morally wrong and unethical. I would also consider religious rules when asked to handle certain tasks. If the job has a high risk to harm my health, I will not take it too.

Well, I think that I would refuse a job where the people is exploited, if the boss treat his employees bad and if the work is not appreciated, but I think that are some ways that I could work for anything, for example, I will go to work in Argentina in a few month and for like a month I will not have the permission to work and that is why I would accept any job there, but then, when I get my permission I will work in the best jobs.

Often people will accept a job they are not entirely comfortable with due to financial pressure. We have all read about famous people who started out with some dubious modeling etc.
The consequences of these bad decisions affect you later in life. It would be difficult to advance your career when your past holds secrets.
There is huge competition for high paying positions, companies can afford to be fussy and not inclined to listen to your sob story.
Everything you do can be tracked. Think of yourself as a brand, protect it!

Well for me as a vegan I would not want to work at a Slaughterhouse, and I'm sure some meat eaters would agree with me. I Just could not come to work everyday Knowing that I'm killing animals form a living. I think it takes a certain kind of person to do that Job, which is even different than hunting for food, That's one out a many jobs I wouldn't do, no matter what the pay rate was.

I would certainly refuse jobs that could compromise my health and integrity. I particularly do not like to refuse jobs, but I would certainly refuse jobs that engage in sexual activity, drugs, and other illegal and bad faith activities.

The first point is if the pay is not worth my time.No need working like an elephant and eating like an ant.

Secondly, If the working conditions are not favorable.Some employees treat their staff as if they're less human.Any unreasonable maltreatment even with all the perks of the job, sorry I'm gone.

This I remember of doing illegal work doesn't pay. My older brother had joined a group that smuggled goods. When they were caught, my brother was maimed by the cops. He suffered brain damage and had lost half of his senses. I was in grade school then. That incident taught us all a great lesson on the evils of doing illegal work.

Similar to the reasons in your original post, I would also refuse to continue with a job if I am mistreated. And if they want me back and promise to change, I will forgive them but ask them to give my position to someone else. Apart from that, I wouldn't accept doing a job if it is not in my passion to do it and if it will affect my life in a negative way.

I would do the same thing for you as well, I don't like a job that where every other movie character have, the bully one or the one that would make you miserable and would let you quit your job. And also,I don't like a job where people with the same level as you treat you like your the one that is on the more lower level and they're the boss. For some reason it gives you the feeling of revenge and would make you even better at work or on the job you are doing, but you can't take away the fact that it also distracts you and makes you more angry.

I think this is a very hypothetical question. I don't think you can really tell until you are in the position. Most people take jobs that are considered morally wrong because they desperately need the money. As of now I would not do a job that involves nudity, a crime and that involves violence. I would also not work somewhere where the boss was mean and didn't treat employees right. There is no excuse for bad behaviour and they is no excuse to ever talk to someone badly.

Yes. Two kinds of job fall into this category.

(1) Any job that tries to force me to choose between my work and my faith, my religious conviction.

(2) Any job that disrupts and interferes with my family and my family life. After all, I'm only working to support my family and myself. I'll give my employer 9 to 5 but the rest of my time goes to my family. There's work and then there's my private life. If my employer doesn't know where to draw the line, I'll draw it.
