Are forums on their way to extinction?

Personally, no, I don't think so.

The fact of the matter is, social networks will never replace forum websites. See, what makes forums special, is that you'll always find quality information if you dig hard enough, along with quality people to elaborate on those topics with.

Personally, I don't think forums are as popular as they used to be. However, I don't see them going extinct anytime soon. There has and always will be an audience of visitors, readers, and contributors that keep forums alive for good measure.

Regarding the part of "reviving" forums. I don't think they need to be revived. To be honest, I'd much rather have fewer forums with better quality writers, than many forums with low-quality contributors. I don't ever see forums (especially business related ones like this) just dying off.

That’s also my opinion that social media cannot completely replace the forums because it has a format that is convenient to the user and comfortable to the eyes especially when the design is good. Social media is more of a casual chat that I see in Facebook Groups although there are private groups that work like a forum. One example is the group where I belong with a niche of the local history.

Actually, there are still a couple of forums that are paying and still active now. Postloop, Forumcoins and Lazyforums are paying me. So, stick to those popular forums and stick to the rules.

I don't think so. I do believe some may be more popular than others, but that depends on the topics discussed. If it's a popular topic, then certainly no. People will always want to discuss things more than just using a hashtag or leaving a comment on Facebook. It doesn't even have to be a popular topic. If it's something people are interested in, they will always talk about it.

In my point of view I don't think forums are going to extinct. Forums are the way of communications, learning online, knowing about new stuffs on internet, little details about online business, and many more other things. Basic point is that forums are for discussions about topics which people usually don't talk about personally. It's always good to knowing different perspective of a same idea. I'm sure of it that forums are definitely not gonna extinct even in the future

Forums are not dying. It so alive and kicking. Actually I'm a member of one forum that does not pay a single cent. It guess it's more of who are interested on the topics those forums can give.

The space for Forums will always exist. Social media platforms can never take the place of forums because it is structured in different ways and for different purposes. Some social media platforms are also geared towards a specific group unlike forums. Forums allows a cross section of indepth discussion which is missing on fast track tools like Twitter or Instagram.

Not really, communities are going stronger every day so forums get even more traction than before. I do think they need to be re-vamped though, in their current state ofrums are way too hard to "digest" for brand new users, they're not friendly enough.

I personally think that as long as forums collaborate with sites like Postloop that help bring them activity, I don't see forums ever really going extinct. However, you do bring up a good topic, and I can say that I've noticed that forums have really gotten less popular.

You may find this comment not exactly relevant but I just want to express what's on my mind. I had an account in Friendster and the swift turn of events that it was slammed by Facebook caught many by surprise. Until now, I cannot think of the rationale why Friendster had to close. Is it because Facebook had dominated the landscape? If so then that means Friendster had considered Facebook a direct competitor which is true.

With forums versus social media, I don't think what happened to Friendster would happen to forums. Social media is like a casual conversation while a forum can be likened to a semi-formal conversation with stricter rules and more focus on the theme. So maybe forums and social media have a different growth path.

Forums aren't getting extinct anytime soon. Each forum has a different community with people of same ideas and interests. New members will keep coming on these communities too because of their interests.
Social media isn't affecting forums in a negative level. It could even be used to share forums and ideas that are from the community of the forums too. One could support forums by being active on at least one forum and this does not have to be forced. If you have interests and hobbies, there will always be a community for you.

I absolutely do not believe that forums are going to be dying out any time soon. I believe that the interaction on forums is incomparable, and that other social media sites like Tumblr or Twitter don't provide the sense of community that forums do. They are places with concentrations of enthusiasts of niche subjects to gather and talk to one another. Commenting on blogs or random posts through social media is not going to be able to replace that.

Forums will never be extinct. Forums give a different vibe compared to social media. I always visit social media, but whenever I'm in a forum, I feel like I'm around more intellectual people who aren't there to follow trends or add into other overrated stuff that social media feeds on. This is also why I always rely on forums when I research and not in social media despite social media having the bigger population of users.

I don't think forums are on their way out. Forums are usually niche-based and there will always be people on the lookout for tips, techniques, and information on the same niche. Like any business though, forums that can provide what internet users need are the ones that are more likely to survive and thrive. There's such a big difference between social media interaction and forums interaction and people who are searching for real life information will likely prefer a forum where there's a huge content of helpful fact and lively exchanges between members.

I also do not think that forums are on their way out--they seem to proliferate and reproduce all over the place about every topic from how to properly install a roll of toilet paper to how A.I. is evolving in terms of its immense cognitive potential. They seem to be endless to me; case in point, look at all of us typing away here today...

Well it depends on what the forums are created for. But I can tell you this, forums for general topics and internet marketing forums are no where near dying because people would always something to chit chat about and likewise the get money working from your bed generation.

It figures. Been on the Internet for years. This is the first year (2017) I'm active on a forum and now the question is being asked if forums are on their way of extinction. (O.o) Well! I don't know. But it does not look like the forum that I joined has any plans of being buried with the dinosaurs.

Forums to go into extinction is unlikely to happen, because a lot of people still prefer forums to blogs ( including myself). Forums are niches based, there are some who are passionate about a particular topic but don't have the time or resources to blog about it, hence forums offer them the platform to discuss about it with people who share their interests.

Doesn't see to me that they are going away, in fact, I've seen more forums right now. Yes, some of them is because they are helping people to earn some money, but actually there are those who just love to express their opinion. Also, people like me to looks for help on forums, seriously I do. Some others share their knowledge through forums, big thanks to those guys. And there are the ones that create them as a community, with common goals and ideas. Based on the fact that forums are social, and we need others to socialize, of course they are going to remain around.

Forums are not on their way to extinction. I personally prefer to use forums compared to social media. I spend more time on forums actually. I think forums are great platforms to interact with and learn from others. The interaction on social media is not the same. I am on different forums and I do need to check those forums on a daily basis.

Personally I don't think forums are dying I would even say that they are more working due to the fact that mow it has beenade easy to get comments and discussions, Forums owners don't need all staff they only need very few people to follow up plus taking care of posters by providing motivations and making it worthy to keep coming back.

Though some forums are closing down this does not mean forums are no longer viable.there are still some good forums still kicking and growing stronger like Nairaland,forum wheel,forumcoin,lazy forum etc.Some are even paying to comment.

Forums are a dying breed and forums are closing up shop more and more every day. Most people can not be bothered to sign up to a forum and post. Because all they have to do is go to the favorite social media outlet and ask a question and receive a instant answer.

Years back, forums were the only place where people would find answers they wouldn't get elsewhere while for others it was an upgrade from the news groups. They'd join forums simply to "hang out" and chat with like-minded people.

Social media and smartphones apps designed solely for chatting are quite popular right now so what we should expect is this:

People who are seeking information about something and must find a platform that will enable them to interact with individuals who have the knowledge they seek will find forums useful. That is why forums will always be around.
