How Would You Market And Rank A Marketplace or A Webshop?

So this question is an easy one. - It's all about marketing and how you would advertise a marketplace.. And how you would rank it.

For instance, let's say you have a webshop, basically a one page website/blog with "buy now" buttons literally everywhere for different kind of merchandises. No articles whatsoever.

My main business is brand building and I've been doing that for a few years now so I know how I could potentially market and advertise something like this, but I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas from you as well. - I mainly use forums, blogs and social media for brand building, which I would obviously do in this sort of scenario too, but other than that..?

And perhaps the most important thing. How would you be able to rank such a website?

When it comes to rankings marketplaces are a whole different animal compared to a normal websites, blog or even an online store. Google will have different ranking signals for online marketplaces like SC for example.

The best thing you can do to understand how Google ranks marketplaces is to look at the competition that actually ranks. Look for what keywords they are ranking what type of on-page technical elements they had implemented and how exactly is the content structured. Don't forget to loom for certain unusual triggers such as buttons, start ratings, comments, reviews, etc.

You can also expand your ranking potential by having a blog section of a CD section like we have here, it basically brings organic traffic on content, not on specific services.

Cristian I heard that Google will always rank e-commerce websites higher than other websites like blogs for example, is this what you are saying here, that Google places more weight for rankings on e-commerce stores?

No. Google will only rank e-commerce websites higher when the user intent allows such an action. For example when searching for " nike jordan shoes" Google knows that the vast majority of users don't want to see information about this product, they want to see real listing pages of this product on e-commerce websites so they can see the price, product description and maybe even buy the product itself!

Google has started to learn user's intent and we as content creation should start taking this into consideration when we want to create content around certain keywords.

Wow! - Thank you very much for this answer Cristian, I really appreciate it!
So I would have to find keywords my competitor or similar sites are using, and then try to figure out a way to either outrank them, or to rank other similar variations of their keywords for the best results?

As I'm not experience and don't have any real knowledge about this, what would be the best thing to do when I'm looking for a seo expert to hire for this? - Is there anything I should make sure they understand and know before I actually hire anyone?

Oh this is going to be interesting to see what the other members say. I am clueless here Andre. Yes I can understand the social media marketing, forum marketing and so forth but how to actually rank a one page website with no content as such....

Everything I have learned so far is based on content marketing as the basis and then building everything upon that so without content I wouldn't know where to start.

Exactly Lynne and that's the reason for this question. Even though I have very limited SEO experience, I do understand that people are increasing their ranks with the use of quality articles. Content that is. And I would love to hear some thoughts and ideas for this one! How Would You Market And Rank A Marketplace or A Webshop?

Like what I've come to notice of recent. Google always have a way that they rank one-page blogs and that is different from how they rank other websites. So, I would suggest you take a look at how they go about those ranking first.
