Do subliminal messages really work? And if so, can and should you use them as a freelancer?

I just come across an interesting email from Visme, about Subliminal Messaging. I spoke about Visme before a while back when I made the post Top 5 Free Infographic Creation Sites Used and Reviewed! These guys over at Visme have created an amazing blog post and infographic about the truth of subliminal messages and how they work on us and our senses.

That is an amazing post and I just HAD to share it with everyone here! It really goes into a lot of great detail about subliminal messages, how they work on us and in our minds and senses both sight and sound. As well as a great amount of detail on how we're being bombarded by subliminal messages constantly more and more as companies and people grab the concept of subliminal messages and how they are big business and responsible for $millions in extra revenue year after year for businesses and companies that use it in marketing and advertising campaigns etc and doing what's essentially manipulating peoples minds without them even knowing it!

We all my have noticed a subliminal message at some point of our lives. Some are more blatant and obvious than others. But some are very subtly done. They've come a long way from what they first used to be, but they still all rely on speaking to your sub-consciousness rather than to your conscious mind.

If you haven't ever been the victim of what is basically mind manipulation, you may have seen a program or some documentary about it on TV. As this is reported to be big business for brands that use subliminal messages in their marketing campaigns.

Some of you golden freelancers may remember this scene from a classic movie from the 50's where the words "Hungry?" "Eat popcorn" and "Drink coco cola" popped up on the screen really quickly?

In the business world, mastery of persuasion is a science and a crucial skill. As business owners and marketers, we are racing to win over our target audiences' hearts and minds, oftentimes not knowing what message sticks and what doesn't. So this scientific research from Visme talks about the kinds of messages that influence consumer behavior and if any of them cross a fine ethical line we should be aware of. They've done a great job of translating some very dense academic concepts into fun visuals you can enjoy and I promise no subliminal ads, I think...

There are some key takeaways as well that show that consumers decisions are greatly influenced by external factors, both consciously and unconsciously. And that as a business owner ourselves, or even as freelancers, we may be able to leverage on these subliminal influencers to entice consumers to make the choice of your brand or product.

This really got me thinking! As a freelancer, can you leverage the mastery of persuasion and use subliminal advertising to influence buyers into using you and to buy your services?

How would a freelancer be able to use subliminal advertising on seocheckout?

Or on any site they advertise their services on?

If you can, should you use subliminal messaging or other subliminal persuasion techniques?

Is subliminal messaging unethical?

Where do you draw the line between subtle subliminal messaging and full on mind rape? LOL

Answer me that!

Thanks! Do subliminal messages really work? And if so, can and should you use them as a freelancer?

Mike.

Oh I never thought of using subliminal messaging to manipulate my readers into signing up for offers on my website. Now my brain is ticking how I could figure out how to add subliminal message to my Youtube videos LOL.

Mike are you warming up to adding a new service here? Adding subliminal messages to Youtube videos? That would go down well with your Youtube promotion services!

I think that subliminal messages do work. Companies do find ways to plant ideas into your head. There have been many occasions I have watched something and had a sudden strong urge to run out and buy what the ad is selling and I found it quite a strange feeling.

I wouldn't think that anyone can commit full on mind rape through subliminal messages though, wouldn't that then be classified as hypnosis? Gawd I hope nobody can hypnotize me through Youtube and make me spend thousands online LOL

I personally don't believe in subliminal messages, those "subliminal messages" that claim to work are probably just very convincing copy sales type content. I agree that some of these can be very subtle but never the less very powerful, you don't need to be the loudest one in the room to convince people on something, you just need to find the way they think and what is their emotional trigger and encourage them to make a certain action. But those people are definitely no brain dead zombies under a "subliminal message" spell.

Whenever I would come across the term subliminal message, I am always reminded of some songs that got popular like Hotel California of the band Eagles and the catchy dance music of Asereje. There were claims that those songs have subliminal messages from the devil that it is sowing evil in the world when we play those songs. I really don’t know if I would believe in subliminal messages or not.
