Internet security the safe way to shop and surf

It is the age of the cyber world in 2016 and beyond. Do you shop online? Are you aware of the dangers that lurk? When shopping or surfing online it's very important that you keep your money and identity safe. Scammers no longer have to be close to steal from you. I will talk about a few ways i keep myself safe from the cyber bullies.

Shop wisely make sure you use PayPal to do your transactions they will have your back in case of a scam. They verify if the item has been shipped and you can plead your case with the buyer protection program that they have. They also provide a layer of protection for sellers. Many websites accept Paypal so you don't even have to give any credit card information. This keeps scammers from being able to steal your information off of insecure websites.

Watch kind of websites you visit, if your browser tells you that a site is malicious then go back. These sites will steal your information by making you believe that you win something or that what your getting is a good deal. Sites like these can be made and put up very fast and easily. Beware they also disappear just as fast, but not before getting your precious information. Be smart and if your unsure about something don't risk it. Please don't forget to like my topic.

Another thing I would like to mention, that was mentioned about a week ago or so is that you should shop on websites that have a valid SSL Certificate. I can not find the discussion about this, if anyone want to post a link that would be amazing. After I read that discussion I thought it was time that I would buy a SSL certificate so the website uses HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) instead of HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol NOT secure).
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. The 'S' at the end of HTTPS stands for 'Secure'. It means all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted.

The only issue I had with the SSL certificate was using it on Shared Hosting. At first it reverted back to the server's SSL certificate, however they were able to establish the secure connection through cPanel with some addon and it seems to work fine.

Sometimes when you're on a website that uses Paypal as a payment method, and you go back to a site that doesn't use HTTPS, you'll often get a notice about going to an unsecure page, and if you're shopping this is pretty alarming so just make sure the website you shop on uses an SSL Certificate, make sure it's verified, and also make sure you see HTTPS in the URL.

I concur with you very much on this issue of SSL certificate on the HTTP issue. but the big question is this; how many buyers are aware of this, most especially the first-timers? They in some way need to be enlightened about this SSL of a thing but most merchant sites dont have such mechanism to notify the buyers of the need to make sure that the ''S'' must be at the end of HTTP.
But good that you have mentioned it here, even though it wasn't mentioned in the article.
well done everett,, good that you brought up this issue of https. nice write-up

Thats a great point more than 50% of end users have no clue what the difference is. People need education about security when putting sensitive information on the web. Thanks for sharing.

I always tell everyone if you don't see the lock or HTTPS then don't put any of your information on it. The website owner may not be malicious but he may have someone watching the site. Sites that are not secure have more than double the risk of being hacked.

One thing that is good with Paypal is the security that it provides with the payment. When you buy something and use Paypal to pay for it, you can have a sort of time delay to examine your product before you confirm the transaction. In case there is a problem with the product, you can instruct Paypal to retrieve the payment and void the transaction. That is very safe for the payment.
