Creating real social media accounts for the purpose of reselling?

Ok so I want to know a few things on this topic... firstly is it legal to create social media accounts (Facebook pages, Twitter accounts etc) and build them up to have a real following in a certain niche for the purpose of reselling them?

And the next question I have is, is it against the TOS of social media accounts to do this? Is it illegal to sell a social media account?

Do you think that there is a market for this and what do you think the value of say a Twitter account is with 1000 followers, 5000 followers and 10 000 followers?

I am not talking about any bought followers, only for accounts that have been built up with real followers and in a specific niche.

I'm pretty sure people do this all the time. I always see people making multiple instagram, twitter, google plus, etc. profiles in the same niche and there's no reason to actually do this unless you're planning on selling the account for a pretty penny Creating real social media accounts for the purpose of reselling?

Some people on instagram are actually pretty dumb about it because they'll post something like "This is my second account, please follow!" and then they'll link to it lol. I'm not sure if having multiple accounts on instagram is against their Terms Of Service or not, but if it it, I can see these types of account getting banned pretty quick.

If you can actually build up these profiles to get over 10,000 real followers or members then you can definitely make some money off of it. I know there are people who have 1mil+ followers and they sell a single post for $10,000+ so if you were to build something up that large and begin to get sales like that from advertisers I'm sure you could sell it for a pretty high price. You'd have to prove your income through the profile before anyone would even think of buying it because no one wants to invest a ton of money into a venture if there is no chance of profiting.

In legal terms, I guess it really depends on how you look at it. You're not actually selling something you own, so can you can you claim it and sell it for your own gains? I know there are people out there selling social media accounts, but I'm not 100% of how legal it is. But if they ink on the check is dry and the deposit goes through, then you don't really have to worry about much Creating real social media accounts for the purpose of reselling?

Thanks Razzy... ok I never thought of setting it up so I sell posts to them but that is possibly also something I could also do.

Razzy I have a mommy blog with over 40 000 Facebook fans and about 13 000 Twitter followers, do you think that there is a market to sell posts to those social networks?

Obviously I would only be happy with niche related content being sent out...

Of course it's not strictly legal but in essence, if you are not caught everything will be ok. The worst they can do to you is ban those accounts.

I've tried selling social media accounts in the past but never actually got any buyers, I'm also pretty paranoid on selling accounts that were made using my own IP addresses, you never know who exactly is buying them and what are they going to do with them once they have full control, there are all kind of freaks out there on social media and I won't want to be linked to any of them.

I did sold a lot of forum profiles in my day, especially on very popular marketplace forums or webmaster related forums. Depending on the post count of the profile I would ask for a certain price.

Best deal I ever got was about 400 bucks for a profile with 2000+ posts. Was a pretty good deal because the forum owner paid me for those 2000 posts and after he stopped maintaining the forum I quickly sold the forum profile and made even more profit.

Oh that is interesting, so even forum profiles can fetch a price... hmmmm

Yeah I never thought of my IP address being linked to those accounts, seriously do you think that is such a big problem?

I think selling social media accounts is illegal because social media account is associated to a real person or entity. However, I I have bought a twitter account and a facebook account. The twitter account that I bought has proved me a blessing. There are 6000 followers and if I share my work, I will get over 100 visits within couple of minutes. The facebook account has 5000 friends, however, most of the people on the friend list are spammers thus I have not been able to make good use of my purchased facebook account.

There was a time that I received a message in one forum about that social media account for reselling. He needs a Twitter account with a certain number of followers. I already forgot how much the offer is but it is less than $150. I was thinking of creating an account for reselling later. However, it dawned on me that it is not easy to get a thousand followers. You have to build it in time and that’s what I don’t have – time. And I think it is easier to get friends in Facebook than getting followers in Twitter.

It is not easy to build followers. If you manage to get thousands of followers then why don't you use the social media for yourself instead of selling for a quick buck? I have never created social media site for the purpose of reselling. However, I have a social media account associated with one of my websites and if I am selling the website, I will be selling the social media account along with the site.

I think social media account reselling would be lot harder. Plus most of the marketplaces are banning it. Because it is violating the rules of the social media sites. And you should be understanding that fiverr and few other sites are also not allowing. So it's okay to sell stuff but make sure to see the legal side of the things. I am sure you'd understand how the things are going to be good enough there.
