Is it safe to hire a virtual assistant?

Would it be safe to hire a virtual assistant if that person needed access to my email or personal accounts, computer, etc? Would I be in danger of hacking or how could i secure my accounts to protect against that?

I would never give anyone full access to my personal email or any other accounts. I would instead forward any emails or information from my email to the VA I hired. That way, I control exactly what they will be able to read. You could obviously hire someone established and trusted, but truth to be told, you'll never be 100% safe. If they feel like steal some of your information there's nothing you can do to stop them in case you give them full access to any of your accounts.

It depends on how experience the virtual assistant is, and how the business arrangement is set up. Never pay for work that is not completed, as the virtual assistant could easily scam you and you'll be out of money. I would suggest that you get to know the virtual assistant, ask for previous work experience, and get any previous work examples.

Also keep in mind, that it is safer to get a virtual assistant that lives in the same country as you. If something would to occur, than the virtual assistant would have to follow your country laws. Also, if they tarnish your brand, or completely mess up the work and you don't want to pay them than you can take them to court. Just a few things to keep in mind.

Even if you trust a person completely (such as a relative or a friend) I would suggest never ever giving complete access to your personal information. So it is obvious that when it comes to hiring a virtual assistant, who you will most probably be dealing with online, you cannot even consider giving such information.

I would never give anyone access to my email and social networks or personal accounts. I don't care it anyone claims it to be safe it will just never happen.

Especially my email password, if someone has that they can get into anything and get password resets email and have access to that! That person can then just take over everything. Geez it is a scary thought.

The only people that have access to my email is my husband and my sister. My sister helped me set up my email and my website and my one website is hosted with her.
I would never trust anyone else to have have access to my email.

Hi sanfora thanks for your question. I think it is depend on purpose of hiring. And purpose of work. As your said, you want to give him access email or personal account or computer etc. I do not think so, that should be good. If you share personal information with virtual assistance and if you do not know him personally, risk should be there. How you believe him. He may hacker. So, good it do not hire anybody to share all personal information. And as per as I know some website has sub-admin option. If you have such option, you can make sub-admin or give him some access which he can assist as your need. Do not give him admin access fully.

My idea of a Virtual Assistant is someone who will be your alter ego when you cannot do the chores. That means if you have a website to handle that you will delegate to the VA then you have to let him now the password. That is food for thought because you have to trust the VA or should I say you need to have a full trust in the VA. What if the VA will do things in your website beyond your knowledge? Or perhaps he will run away with your website? That’s not a nice thought but it can happen.

I would say so, because a lot of people are hiring virtual assistants to help them in their work. Outsourcing virtual assistants is a win win situation for both the client and the assistant.
