What do you think of lead generation companies?

I've seen loads of lead generation companies being advertised and I just wonder what everyone thinks of using this type of service?

I can't help thinking it is a little underhanded. This is simply because I have often had companies cold calling me and adding me to their newsletter lists when I never signed up.

I get quite upset when I answer my phone and the person knows my name and surname and tries to sell me something. I also get annoyed when I open up my email in the morning and 50% of my emails are newsletter that I have not signed up for.

These lead generation companies are surely people that have gathered names, email addresses and phone numbers right?

In marketing, lead generation is the initiation of consumer interest or inquiry into products or services of a business. Leads can be created for purposes such as list building, e-newsletter list acquisition or for sales leads.

Companies that sell you leads, so basically contact details of people that you can market to.

There are lots of people that use what I think are unethical ways of getting information from people and then sell them on.

So for example I have lots of people signing up to my newsletters on my websites, so I could sell their information to someone else. I've actually had people ask me to sell them my lists and I just said no, I don't think it is right to do this.

I think you have to be very careful with lead generation companies because alot of them or almost ALL of them do not guarentee sales they just guarentee putting you infront of a client that relates and would like services or products similar to what your offfer as a company. Some of the best places to get leads in 2016 are but not limited to Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Callbox, InfoUSA, salesgenie, Hoovers, thumbtack, task rabbit and MORE! You would be suprised if i told you that you have leads everywhere you just have to tap into your current clientele base first and they will help you find new clients based on word of mouth.

Oh yes I agree with you there Jkeyz2, I prefer to generate my own leads from my own marketing efforts. I doubt that any leads I buy will generate sales simply because they are not interested in my company or what I do. Plus I think my efforts will just end up annoying people if I do that, just like I get annoyed getting spam.

I collect leads from my websites and social media by offering a free eBook for my one website and using competitions for another one. So far it is working quite nicely, my leads are building slowly but surely.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

99.9% of "lead generation" companies are garbage.

They ask for a huge up front investment and then they get to work attempting to find people who are interested. And these "leads" aren't even exclusive meaning that they will sell the same lead to multiple people.

Now the types of leads probably vary depending on the niche, but in the SEO field all these companies are garbage. I've paid $25 a lead that was suppose to be exclusive and when I got a hold of the person they said they never expressed interest in SEO or Online Marketing. I got to talking a bit further and found out that the person responded to the lead company with "I'm not interested, please remove me from you lists" and the lead company considered that a hot lead... wtf.

I would gladly pay $250 to $300 for actual leads that close. That just shows you how much these $10 to $25 leads are actually working lol What do you think of lead generation companies? I've told these leads companies that I will pay them up to $300 per lead that closes but they turned me down almost immediately because they know the quality of these leads they're generating.

This wasn't as short and sweet as I thought it was going to be because I went on a bit of a rant lol What do you think of lead generation companies?

Hey Razzy,
We have a slick solution coming in the near future that guarantees you actual sales or you get your money back. Never in the history of advertising has any advertising company guaranteed sales. We will! We are building a disruptive technology that will surely mess with AdSense and AdWords, the lead gen market and all current advertising in general. It is not quite ready for prime time and still under development but everyone who has the inside baseball on what we are building have used word like Epic, Awesome and Crazy Sick System. What do you think of lead generation companies? I can hardly wait to show you once we are ready.

If you have something that works, I'll pay well lol What do you think of lead generation companies?

But I'm not paying for 50 leads up front. I'll buy 1 to 10 to start off and judge it from there.

Yes exactly Razzy! They all advertise "hot leads" don't they?

That is what I am talking about. I have had some people contacting me with the strangest offers so I can see clearly that my details have been sold off.

I wouldn't exactly consider myself to be a "hot lead" I don't buy much LOL

There are two types of lead generating services! Inbound and outbound. Inbound is where the people come to you to buy your products and services usually telephone calls to your business. Tracking for this can be done by call forwarding by the company, they will give you an admin panel where you can listen to all of the recorded calls to verify that the calls were legit. Inbound is a much higher quality but significantly more expensive. If your product or service are not awesome and competitive in pricing then you could lose money due to the cost of the inbound marketing service costing more that the sales that you made. Outbound lead generation on the other hand is where a company sells you a contact list stating that the people on this list are interested in your specific products and services. The companies selling these lists will state that these requests are fresh and clean. I laugh at them when they tell me that the requests or the person filled out the form were made within the last 48 hours. Lol! In my opinion if the list is actually real then these are dead leads because when people fill out a form they want the answers now not two day later. Another thing that outbound lead gen companies do is sell these lists to a zillion people. The people who filled out the forms can get many calls from companies who bought the lists. When calling on these lists it is not uncommon to hear OMG another !*%$#*$&^#! sales call! Many time they just hang up on you.

Exactly! That is exactly my response when I get one of those calls or an email. I get seriously annoyed. I always ask where they got my name and phone number from and then they hang up.
