Twitter Private Messages are a Spam Fest!

What has your experience been with Twitter's private messages?

I have 4 Twitter accounts and every time I log into them my inbox has anything from about 30 - 100 private messages.

All of it is automated messages asking me to sign up to something or follow on another social media platform. Basically the Twitter Private Message feature is just an annoying spam fest.

I have never once received a personal message like this was intended for, in fact I don't even check my messages at all anymore. I just mark them all as read so that notification doesn't annoy me.

Yes maybe some people get conversions doing this but is it worth it? I will not ever automate this simply because it is the most annoying, spammy thing to do.

What are your thoughts and experience with Twitter PM's? Is there any way to turn off the option for PM's?

Maybe someone here can come up with a "block Twitter PM's"service, I'll buy it for sure!

Yeah Twitter private messages are really big mess and real spam fest. For long time i am not checking and reading any of these, because i never noted useful information and hate to be spammed all the time. So just leave it and forget about it...

OK so it is not just me LOL. Yes it is a massive mess, I would have thought that Twitter would do something about this?

Imagine someone does send me an important message one day, I would never see it or respond to it.

I told you twitter is on the down-roll for a while now! The platform has a serious bot problem and even if the last two years they really start cracking up on bots, there are still tons of fake accounts out there that spam.

I'm curious if they ever counted or included the huge amounts of bot accounts in their general user statistics. If yes, then its pretty sad, really.

Yes I don't know if they include all the fake accounts Cristian, I think it is much worse than Facebook by a long way.

I've sent private messages myself, but I never got spammy ones. I think you might be on a twitter spam list just like emails.

Perhaps... but only people connected to me can PM me and the messages are automated. I think it is software people are using to inbox me as soon as I follow them.

The spams that I get in my Facebook inbox is amusing. There are several senders who has sent more than 1 message each. And reading those messages, they are common. The first message is asking for a number. It is not clear what kind of number. And the second message is that the number did not win in the lotto. Now I am getting the drift. The next message is that the number I gave did not win and he had bet all his money so now he has no money for food. Those spams are truly creative and they are coming from more than 5 people with the same kind of message.
