Which is better: VPS or Hosting Provider?

A few month ago I was contacted by a VPS provider who offered me a free VPS of my choice is return for my advert space on a forum. Of course I said yes, as who doesn't want a free VPS right? Since then it has just been sat around doing nothing, and I have only really used it to run some light software like MassPlanner, which I could just stick on my laptop or something anyway.

My question to you guys is: Should I continue with my hosting company (Which unfortunately is currently GoDaddy), or should I run a few sites from my VPS. I have in the past tried to install WordPress on IIS, but I ran into a few issues with it not configuring properly. The provider offers dedicated web hosting, which I could swap to. So shall I continue running MP and maybe start some SEO tools/ software or ditch GoDaddy?

I use ucartz.com and serverorbits.com both are very good.

Godaddy is too expensive for what you get. Plus they throttle server traffic, limit concurrent connections and more.
A bad quality VPS sometime is more trouble than what it is worth. I tested a few with mixed results.

I currently used the following hosting companies with excellent results:

Check out digital ocean. Allows you to scale fast when needed.

Dedicated unmanaged - Hetzner has amazing prices for robust machines. (Oh yeah, if you watch prices they can drop to really low monthly prices). However they require credit card authorization forms, photo I.D. to open an account. It is a pain but it is worth jumping through their hoops for the servers you can get.

I've never been a fan of GoDaddys hosting plans. You pay too much, as Webguy2024 said, and the hosting is just crap to begin with.

Is Depends which one can run your website faster. I always approach things from an SEO perspective, lol.
The VPS is faster right? Go with that. Google loves fast loading websites, that always get good ranks.
Oh yeah, and I have to agree with the other guys here. Godaddy sucks, especially when it comes to user support.

PS: I currently have a Godaddy hosting plan - lol.
