Is there an ideal length for a bookmark description online? Also, any other tips on effective bookmarking for traffic or SEO would be good.

I think the description may be short and must contains focus on contents used in it. so this may easy to read and understand by the reader.

When you say bookmark description, it should be directly related to what you are posting. My take on the description is the shorter, the better, but it should be clear and not vague. For example, if you tweet about your latest blog, make sure that the tweet is interesting and the description of your blog is short and concise to leave a quality bookmark. You will actually know if your tweet is good because it will be re-tweeted. The same with Pinterest, when your pinned item is re-pinned then that is a good bookmark.
