What is original content?

What is your view on original content? How do you know your content or site articles are original and not just similar to what other sites offer?

Enter your article or blog post title into Google search, without quotes and see what other pages come up. You might think you have an original idea, but there's a good chance your article has already been published in one form or another online before. Look at what articles are already out there and just try to cover another facet of the same topic, rather than covering the same information again in new words.

Original content is a article/content which you don't find it on google or copyspace except in your site. It is like a prime number, which is found only in your blog or site but no where else.

Search engines rank your website according to the relevance of content put on your site. That's why it is so important to put original content in your web pages. If you do not update your content every few months, users will loose interest in your site.

Of course, there will always be some content that Google calls ever green, meaning it's fresh even years from now and doesn't need updating. But typically, most sites/pages rank higher in Google with regular updating. It doesn't hurt to occasionally add an update at the end of an older blog article or static HTML page, just so the search engines have something new to index.

Adding your own personal side to a story I feel is making original content. Almost everything someone posts is simply something that has already been posted online at some point, it's how interesting you made your content to be, as well as your own personal side of the content. Anyone can post generic content, but for originality you have to put it in your own words, and create something that is the same concept, but a different feel behind the content.

Adding your own opinion or review of a situation or product can make the content more original and unique.

If you change, adapt or improve your content on a regular base, the search engine spiders will crawl through your content more often and place you among the top search results.

You can run checks on them to make sure that they are original. Never copy word for word and always try to be original when you are writing.

I agree that checks should be run on things to make sure that they are not copying. You would not want to not run this and publish something online and then have the search engine say it was duplicate content.
