Well, robertman11 asks if the OP's post is a spam. Most of his posts are one liner and kinda computer generated replies.

I excerpted part of the original post and it seems to be reprinted on numerous sites. This is usually how I check to see if something is 'spam'.

Also, it's possible the poster is hoping to come back at a later time and drop in a link to the original post. If that happens, i will be here to zap it. c:

As for the original post, what is considered ethical link building changes periodically as Google updates their algorithm. For instance, there was a time when getting backlinks via reciprocal links or web directories was considered acceptable. Now, it's considered a manipulation of the search engines as the webmaster/blogger is doing it and it's not really an editorial style link given freely by the other site owner for no compensation. (in this situation the reciprocal backlink is the payment given for the backlink; and that's true with both link exchange and directory submission where you usually have to link back to the directory to get admission).

Ethical link building or you may say white hat seo. It is the process of building backlinks to your site by using the natural process not by spamming or using black hat seo.

Ethical link building is a term used to describe certain link building techniques that are not viewed to be spam.
It's probably better to define what is unethical link building than what is ethical link building - there are many automated techniques that are considered to be an annoyance (in the same way that email spam is) and these techniques are considered unethical.

If you post spammy comments and low quality articles online linking back to your website, that is not ethical.

I agree with you. Ethical link building is ensuring any incoming links to your website are from sites that are trusted by Google and are of value when trying to boost your search engine rankings. Small Business Owners mostly use it.

And, it's annoying to the blogger who has to clean up all that spam.

I am confused with the commotion in this discussion. Anyway, the only unethical link building that I know is when your backlink is being spread by bots. Other than that maybe you can consider ethical link building especially when you do the link building manually.
