Will Adsense hurt direct sales?

Let's say your site is based around a specific product or product line. Should you have Adsense on the site too? Chances are, the ads shown will be very similar to the items you have for sale. So will that cause you to get fewer sales?

It's a real possibility that you could lose affiliate sales, especially if Adsense starts showing ads for the same products you are reviewing on your page. The only way to deal with that is block specific ads from showing and there should be a way to do that in your Adsense control panel.

It's not to common but it can defiantly happen. I would still recommend having ad-sense if it is already set up.

By offering both Adsense and affiliate products on your pages, you will double your chances of making money (whether via ad click or affiliate commission. However, you won't want to over clutter your pages with too many ads or recommendations. As this can devalue the look of your site easily.

Maybe you could advertise your Adsense on certain pages only, so it doesn't compete with your affiliate products. For these types of sites, Adsense could be perfect to place within posts that don't directly relate to your affiliate product. For instance, you would not want to put Adsense on your affiliate review posts.

If you could find out which pages on your site are ranking high for specific keywords, then you could monetize those pages accordingly with affiliate products that convert well. Those pages would not have Adsense.
