Writing horror stories

I love watching horror movies and horror/suspense TV shows and think this would be a really good genre to write for. Does anyone here have experience with these type of horror or suspense stories or know how to break into that genre?

I absolutely LOVE suspense, and horror flicks. I've never tried writing that genre. I think someday I may just pursue that direction. Aside from my regular articles, my stories surround erotica and specific fetishes.

My imagination though could easily take me down the suspense highway.

I am in india now ,,, you can find many hunted places here ,, you can get to know many hunted stories in small towns. So I got a chance to write a article on it . You know I was writing the article ,but on that day it became too late night while writing. And you won't belive what a horrifying condition was there. I was really scared.

The key to writing horror is to know how to weave suspense into the story. It's not good enough to have a mad man chasing teens through a town wielding a hatchet. You have to draw out events for awhile to create suspense and then bring things gradually to a peak and then it's all a fast downhill ride from there to the end.

I once had joined a forum with horror stories as genre. There was a board where we can submit short stories like a blog. I think I had written more than 5 horror stories that I had submitted. I didn't get paid though and I understand that it was a struggling forum at the time. I just don't know if it has prospered. Anyway, writing horror stories is difficult. What I did was to write it at night when everyone was already asleep. I have to feel the fear and be scared by my imagination so the story would really flow naturally. Can you imagine writing a horror story at midnight when you are alone in the living room?

So far I have written only one horror story and this story was published on a newspaper and I was paid $25 for 1500-word horror story. I think I am not good at writing horror stories. However, I really want to try my hands on writing horror stories.
