Inform your visitors

There are a few websites that have some splendid ideas or offer unique services, but the website itself looks similar to a standard forum or blog. This is an absolutely fatal mistake which is also done by advanced webmasters. I always recommend adding all of the main information regarding your website on the index page and maybe even add a message box in the header, which is only viewable by guests.

This seems like a good idea. How do you go about adding a message box in the header?

You have to be willing to make your site stand out and be different from others. This is what is going to make you stand out.

For a forum or blog, it helps to have a tag line under the main site name that lets the visitor know what the site is about. For instance some tech blogs have catchy names and it's hard to tell they have anything to do with tech q&a; a tag line for that kind of site would be helpful to someone clicking through from search engines.

Also, the site description (in the header or other visible spot on your blog) is another great place to use your chosen keywords. Google will look to this first text on a page for clues as to what the site is about and list it accordingly in search engine results.

What would you say on your message box? Is this something you could do on a forum or just on a blog?

Message box is a good idea. And the site description is key I feel. Others have to know what the site is all aboutInform your visitors

If you are offering services on your site then you can ask your visitors how you would help...

And, it makes the site more search engine friendly by having your site description on the home page, even near the top. Google will consider the first text on any page to be most important as to site description if it can't find a meta description or site title

I rather like this idea. It is a great way to inform those visiting your site.

Great tip. I have never seen a message box I don't think but the concept is great.

Based on the workshop on website construction that I had attended a long time ago, you should be very clear with the theme of your website including the forte or features. So if your site is about sports particularly soccer then show it in your header or site description so walk-in users can easily get a good grasp of what your site is all about. Just to add, the name of your site is also vital since it carries an implied description of your website.
