Forum staff communication and the staff room

Most times, I simply private message my forum global moderator on issues rather than posting a thread in the staff room. With my first global mod, we used the staff room all the time, but once she left, we got out of the habit and since I don't have a large staff, a pm makes more sense now. Also, it's a good way to discuss things privately with just one staff member rather than posting a thread to everyone (which is read now by current staff and later by future staff).

Though I like using the staff room for a larger staff as it gives staff a good place to talk about issues going on with the forum that might need to be resolved.

Do you have any particular preferences when communicating with your staff? Do you maintain a staff room?

I like having a staff room for general discussion, or for chatting about suspicious members. It's important to have a common area for staff so you know you're all on the same page. However, I feel it's important to have close communication with staff through PM's as well. Especially for more immediate issues or questions. Provides added support when it's warranted.

What type of suspicious members have you encountered?

Spammers, or people who like to poke at others to get them going. Sometimes they're not obvious, so you have to watch their actions.

I have no experience with the staff room but based on the first hand information that I was receiving from my husband, he doesn’t use a staff room because he prefers to converse with the staff on a one-on-one basis. What if there are 2 staff members who are at odds then it’s good if they will mention their spat in the staff room. But with a PM with the admin, more likely that issue or even complaints will come out because conversing with the admin is already an opportunity to voice out the problem.
