Do you have a stand alone forum?

Is your forum stand alone? Or, does it support a blog or website? When I first started my forum, i was tempted to put a blog on the top level of the domain (such as mysite.com) with the forum being on a subfolder (mysite.com/forum). But I chose to put the forum on the top level. So now, the forum is stand alone. Though we do have a forum blog on one of the subfolders.

I started a stand alone forum that did not have a community blog, because I wanted all content to be on the forum and not on the blog pages.

I like standalone if your only options for a front is a blog. A forum is too similar to a blog and you can make a special section to "blog" on your forum if needed.

If you have another front site intention, like a store or marketplace or etc, a forum is a great addition to that.

It depends on the type of forum you have. For instance, if you have a tech forum, then having a blog on the home page might make more sense. The constantly updated blog will help your SEO.
