Do you agree that PPC should be used as a complement and not on its own?

PPC is promoted as being a cost effective online marketing option. Its benefits are often highlighted, especially the fact that it gives you results quickly, the traffic is of a better quality, and you can track conversions.

However I strongly believe that if a PPC campaign is carried out on its own it is not going to be that effective. SEO is still important, even though it may seem to bring in results rather slowly. But you cannot do PPC forever, if your budget is limited. What do you think? Should PPC be used on its own or as a complement?

Depending on my budget, I like to run a PPC campaign right when I start my SEO campaign.

I do it this way because the PPC will bring in instant traffic since I'll be paying for my placement at the top. SEO will bring in quality traffic in a few months since it's not an over night type of branding and marketing.

For the PPC I'll try to set it up so I can advertise through just one platform like Google for 3 months. This way I'll have enough time to let the PPC campaign run and bring in sales while I'm also doing the optimization along side it. Sometimes I can't afford to do the 3 months so I'll have to budget for 1 or 2 months. I can stretch my budget to the full 3 months that I like, but it usually doesn't have the same affect as if I have a bigger budget and can pay a little more each day. I will definitely boostrap my profits, and that always helps since I'm backing all my projects personally and not getting any funding from an outside source. Boostrapping is basically starting up a website or business and barely paying yourself, or not paying yourself at all, and putting all the profits right back into the company or website in order to build even quicker. A lot of people do it, and if it's done right it can yield some pretty amazing results down the road.

As for the SEO side of things. I'll usually begin my campaign after I have the PPC campaign set up just because the PPC campaign can pretty much run on auto pilot for the entirety of the first SEO campaign. Kind of like a set and forget type of thing but you have to log in a couple times a week to check it lol Do you agree that PPC should be used as a complement and not on its own? Back to the SEO... I'll do my campaign how I always do it and not deviate or ramp up to early. Doing this will go well with the PPC campaign since I'll already be getting traffic that is sharing and loving my website. So when Google sees that I'm getting talked about online they'll more than likely jump my rankings. And when my SEO campaign starts to kick in I'll get an even bigger boost.

So I say yes to running both at the same time, if you can afford it. Set up your PPC campaign first and then run your SEO campaign.

Thanks,

Razzy

I agree that PPC should be used with SEO. PPC is good for bringing traffic into your website and building a brand so there are some long term effects with it. For example, PPC members may return so you get returning traffic. However, it will cost a lot for this to generate a high amount of long term traffic. Therefore, you should complement it with SEO which will be cheaper in the long term and give you long term traffic. Furthermore, organic traffic is more likely to stay active on your website than PPC traffic. With marketing, you should use multiple methods to maximise your results.
